Vaulted Ceilings

Same exact house -

one has vaulted ceilings

the other has flat ceilings

which would you go with?

Just curious to hear your answers - I think I prefer flat b/c i love crown molding.....

The house with the vaulted is also on a nicer block and has a better lake view in the backyard...

My last apt. had vaulted ceilings and I loved it...it made the space feel soooo much bigger than it was. We have low ceilings/crown molding now, but I miss my high ceilings...

i think that the rooms may feel bigger with the vaulted - my other thing besides crown molding is that i like tall kitchen cabinets with the crown - and with the way the walls work we won't be able to do that in the house with the vaulted ceilings....

i'll try and post pics so you can see the kitchen differences with a flat ceiling with tall cabinets with crown vs vaulted ceiling with short cabinets, no crown

normally I would say vaulted BUT i like the regular height picture better, I think because of the stainless and paint (which can easily be added to the vaulted)

GO VAULTED .. the airy open feeling is great.

Hmmm - I agree with you about the tall cabinets w/crown - we have that now & it looks great. I do love the living room in the 2nd pic though - it looks so big & airy. It's a tough call, but I'd probably still opt for the vaulted ceilings. Good luck w/your decision!

yeah i love tall cabinets Chat Icon even though im barely 5 feet tall Chat Icon Chat Icon

we *might* be able to squeeze the next size up in cabinetry with the vaulted ceiling (which i think would be the 36inch not 42inch which is the tallest i think they make) - it's hard to say without measuring though - but in any case if taller cabinet doesn't fit we could always do the shorter cabinet with the crown....

Vaulted is very nice. and you can add the molding to the cabinets. We have molding on our cabinets and we have vaulted ceilings.

Re: Vaulted Ceilings

well, i am waiting to find out if the vaulted ceiling house is a short sale or not....

our realtor is over at another house taking pics for us (the house she is taking pics of is the same exact model as the flat ceiling house - the flat ceiling pics i posted are from the old short sale awhile back)

the house she is taking pics of and the vaulted ceiling house are the same model - which is the same model as the short sale we almost got - so we know the layout and love it....

i am probably confusing everyone! sorry!

the vaulted ceiling house is across town in what i think is a nicer area and it might not be a short sale....if it's not i think we might try to get it.....i was against vaulted ceilings but i think we could make it work and after seeing the photos side by side from almost the same angles i think the vaulted ceilings do make the space feel more open.....

Something to keep in mind... my friends just vaulted the ceilings to their kitchen/living area and bedroom and their heating and cooling bill has gone through the roof. They could not believe the difference that it had made. Something they never anticipated. I do love how the vaulted looks though.

Re: Vaulted Ceilings

I have vaulted in my LR and it's much noisier than it was before the vaulting. Also the heat rises so it's colder, despite using the ceiling fan to push it down. I do love the look over the flat though. I actually dont understand why you can't put crown moulding...it coud be cut to fit, no? Maybe I'd have to see it done to appreciate why you shouldn't. I asked the contractor if he would carry it over from the DR and he said it's not done on vaulted ceilings.

I decided against a house with vaulted ceilings for this reason. I LOVE the way it looks, however my heating bills are high enough in the winter! Chat Icon

Re: Vaulted Ceilings

Vaulted ceilings were on my wish list of things for a house to have.

Thankfully our master bedroom has them so I would obviously choose vaulted.

And if I remember correctly, this is in florida, and to me vaulted ceilings SCREAM florida house lol

we are looking at houses in florida - so maybe vaulted is a good thing to keep the house cooler....like someone else posted vaulted ceilings = florida style house....

i've actually seen photos of crown molding on vaulted/slanted ceilings and it can be done but they say it isn't easy to DIY and i'm not sure if i am crazy about the way it looks....if you google it, photos will come up...
