I think many don’t know they have allergies to certain things and I find this quite scary to take a vaccine that says you need to be where you can be revived. Other places that are not equipped will be eventually distributing the vaccine.

Well, if they went to the doctor and got regular check-ups even when they weren’t sick, this might help Chat Icon .

A regular check up will not tell you what allergies you might have. You either have to do testing or as most people find out, when it pops up from eating or taking medicines or whatever it might be for.
You have mentioned before that you don’t go to the doctor much as you are scared of them, correct? Getting shots or taking blood? Unless I am thinking of someone else.

I go and get checkups, but not as often as I should. What’s your point? I know better and I have a medical reason (vasovagal response) why it is so difficult for me to go, which is counter intuitive.

But thanks a lot for reminding me of my problem / inability. You’re a real winner. You’ve sunk to new lows.

I know two people who have gotten the vaccine.

My family member who is a nurse received it last week. She was lightheaded after the first dose and achy took some pain killers the first day. The shot area was itchy. I just spoke with her today and she is experiencing some episodes of chills and aches.

My friend in the UK took it two weeks ago and has had really no symptoms. She works in a hospital.

WTF are you talking about? Please do post your source of information to support your claim that "other places that are not equipped will be eventually distributing the vaccine". Chat Icon

The ONLY place you can get vaccines, unless there is some "underground vaccine club" I don't know about, is at the doctor's office, a hospital or a pharmacy for something like the flu shot. All of which are places that are well equipped to to distribute a vaccine.

Furthermore, you seem to be VERY hung up on this vaccine's side effects. Do you never take vaccines or medicine? Because if you do, you must be aware there is not a vaccine OR drug out there that doesn't have a very long lost of potential side effects. Some that literally list DEATH as a possible side effect. Literal death. Yet people take them anyway because the risk of major side effects is very small and the benefits far outweigh the probability that anything will go wrong. Such will be the case with the COVID vaccine.

You really need to educate yourself before speaking.

Sorry but I am not comfortable going to a CVS when they tell you that they might need to resuscitate you if you have a problem getting the vaccine. Are you?
I am educated and that is why I mentioned it.

They never said someone would have to resuscitate you. They said there is a very slight chance of an allergic reaction and you should be watched for 20 minutes and have an epi pen readily available. They didn't say you would go into cardiac arrest.

Britain’s Medical and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has said people should not receive the shot if they have had a significant allergic reaction to a vaccine, medicine or food, such as those who have been told to carry an adrenaline shot — such as an EpiPen or other similar devices — or others who have had potentially fatal allergic reactions. The medical regulator also said vaccinations should be carried out only in facilities that have resuscitation equipment.

Who said cardiac arrest? Again many don’t know they have allergies and I wouldn’t want to go through an emergency in a drug store.

To play devil's advocate, CVS would DEFINITELY have Epi Pens Chat Icon

A regular doctor's office or urgent care would call an ambulance if someone went into anaphylaxis, just like a pharmacy would. The only way to be fully prepared for a true emergency would be to get the vaccine in a hospital- which a) don't have the resources to do this and b) healthy people should not be in during a pandemic

I suppose if anyone were truly worried, they could try to find a vaccination site as close to a hospital or volunteer ambulance corp as possible, which would shorten the time to help should something happen.

As announced on November 12, CVS Health has entered into a partnership with HHS to provide access across the country to COVID-19 vaccines, once available. Through this partnership, CVS Pharmacy locations will receive vaccine supplies to administer the vaccine in accordance with federal prioritization guidelines.

Walgreens also down south had a sign on their door saying Covid vaccines not available yet as I guess they had many ask about it. This was the end of November shown by a nurse friend.

I did get an email from CVS saying when the time comes they might be a place you could get the vaccine. I didn't read it too closely though. I was in Target recently and someone was talking to the pharmacist in the cvs there about how they will eventually have the vaccine. But no idea when that would be. I would think they will have to offer it at places other than doctor's offices because many people don't have primary doctors in this country. Many never see a doctor regularly or have no insurance, etc. And i can't imagine how it would overwhelm urgent care centers if they had to distribute it.
I think to get a vaccine out to as many people as they need to, on sucu a large scale, they will have to have some other options.
My DH told me once that when he was a kid he would go to a local mall with his mom and they had a vaccine clinic where kids would get vaccinated for whatever they needed. I had never heard of that myself, but I guess it existed

Stony Brook University will administer up to 5,000 Covid-19 vaccinations in a two day blitz that targets Suffolk County’s first responders.

Paramedics, police officers and other frontline workers lined up Tuesday at Stony Brook’s student union to receive their first dose of the Moderna vaccine.

Who said cardiac arrest? Again many don’t know they have allergies and I wouldn’t want to go through an emergency in a drug store.

Who told you the COVID vaccine will be given in a drug store? References, please.

Absolutely. One of the biggest barriers to vaccination is accessibility. If the goal is to encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated, it needs to be widely available and low or no cost. Pharmacy administered flu shots have been going well overall and this would likely be no different.

I think many don’t know they have allergies to certain things and I find this quite scary to take a vaccine that says you need to be where you can be revived. Other places that are not equipped will be eventually distributing the vaccine.

The student union isn't in the hospital.

There is a big difference between vaccinating 5,000 first responders and the general public. I suppose hospitals could, in theory, set up outdoor vaccination sites but they would need the resources to do this and resources are in short supply at hospitals across the country. It would be great if they could find the resources, especially if it meant those who are more comfortable near a hospital would be more willing to receive the vaccine.

In Fort Worth people stood in line for 13 hours to get a vaccine. I would assume they would administer at hospitals for the public eventually.

Yes across from the hospital. Meaning it is right there so not a far distance and the hospital is still providing the vaccine to the public.

I didn’t realize they had a “newer” student union. Ah, it’s been 20 years. Regardless, still, it’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the hospital. It isn’t “right there” as a PP said. I wasn’t really aware of the hospital being “right there” when I was on the main campus.

Quick drive so that is basically what I meant. Wasn’t thinking of walking it and still affiliated with the hospital.

I graduated in '97, the newer union was finished towards the end of my time there. It was so much nicer and easier to get to.

The hospital is good walk from the union and main campus. It was a looooong walk just to get from the union to the Life Sciences bldg and they were on the same side of campus! LOL Chat Icon

The CVS around the corner on 25A may actually be closer, time-wise, since it's all major roads. It's not easy getting into and through campus.

Graduated in '94 Chat Icon Things are definitely a lot different than when I was there.
