VA or NC?

Anyone on here live, or know anyone, that lives in VA or NC??

I have been thinking of moving out of NY since I was in High School! But I never really 'needed' to at first b/c I was living for free at my mom's house, and made a ton of money a week. LOL. But I still knew I always wanted off LI.

Sure enough, when I met my DH, he said he could never EVER leave LI. He said this was his home, and he coudln't ever leave. Well, now he's finally starting to cross over to the 'other side' LOL.

A little back story... His sister is moving to NC after her kids finish the school year here. Her husband already went down b/c of a great job offering. He sent us a pic of a beautiful home that was rent to own, for only $850!! DH of coarse said that now he is interested. He is seeing that there is NO WAY we can afford anything on LI to OWN in a loooong loooong time. We rent a 2 bedroom home ... it does the job, but we are struggling. I was the one who made most of the money ... I was laid off and just can't find anything close to what I was making. He's been workin a 2nd job, and we're paying our bills, but just not able to save what we'd like.
So after seeing how cheap it is at other places, and that it is in fact possible to get paid more then what he is here in NY (he gets paid verrrry minimal at his job for the past 7 years, but that's a whole other post LOL)

But the thing is, I never had an interest of moving to NC. IDK... just never interested me. And also, I'm not best of friends with DHs sister....but again, that's a whole different post too. So, I was looking at houses for rent to own in VA...only 2 hours away from where they want us to move in NC. So that's closer to LI to visit family and friends, but still TONS cheaper. But I've never been there, or NC either LOL. I've looked at jobs for DH and there are tons he can do, making a bit more then what he is here, but rent would be about 400 LESS a month. So I figure, we're making it here, if he made more and we paid less we'd be pretty well off.

Soooo...I guess after all that rambling, I'm asking if anyone has any insight to either state. I was thinking Richmond VA area, or Moorseville NC area. TIA!!

Re: VA or NC?

Well I can't speak for NC because I have never been there but our very good friends live outside of Richmond, VA. They lived her on LI and sold their house at the right time and built a beautiful house down there. They live in Midlothian which is a beautiful area. Tons of restaurants, stores, parks and etc... Not to mention their housing development is amazing (pool, clubhouse, sprinkler park, playground and more)! I wish we could move down there but we just can't right now. Definitely look into that area.
