Uti or kidney infection? UPDATE at bottom
I've never had either. Friday all day my back and stomach on my right side hurt all. I thought I slept wrong. I became very nauseous. The only thing that changed was I went back on bcp. Saturday I was nauseous all day long. Back hurt again. I thought maybe just bug. I didn't take the bcp just incase it was a reaction. I noticed my urine changed to a bright yellow color. I thought I was jus dehydrated. Upped water as much as I could. It changed a little lighter. Sunday I felt perfect all day. Until 6 when my back starting hurting again and my urine went back to bright yellow. I was uncomfortable a lot of the night. At 3 am Maurine was a lot darker. And now it's a pale yellow. Anyway, would symptoms come and go if uti or kidney infection? It doesn't hurt to pee and it's only my back that hurts. I'm going to call the gyno in a few.

Re: Uti or kidney infection?
Symptoms of a kidney stone come and go, yes.
The pain is when the stone is moving. Once it stops moving the pain stops. Then starts again when the stone moves and makes it way down the tubes to your bladder.
It can be excruciating. As in, worse than child birth.
I'd see a doctor. You want to make sure it's small enough to pass on it's own and not stuck anywhere.
And yes, it can make you very nauseous.

All this. Though I've never noticed a change in color of pee with kidney stones. Best to have it checked out, though.

Uti or kidney infection?
thank you. I didn't even think of stones. My symptoms don't seem to be so severe, and no painful urination, but I am def getting checked out today at 2. The pain comes in waves as does the nausea.

I never had painful urination with stones. Once they pass into your bladder, there is no more pain. I pee them out without even noticing it
But the pain in your flank is generally pretty awful with stones and they can cause blood in the urine which might account for darker urine.
Good luck

Re: Uti or kidney infection?
The misconception is that peeing out a kidney stone is painful. It is...for men. For women, it's not a big deal usually. I usually feel pressure as I'm peeing it out, but no pain. As PP said, the pain is when it's passing through your urteter and blocking urine.

Uti or kidney infection?
Well I was told I was crazy lol. No j/k but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. He thinks, from having a baby 7 weeks ago, it's just my muscles and body getting back to normal. My urine did have some stuff elevated in it but not uncommon after birth, a little uncommon for being 7 weeks out. I have to go back next week for another urine test and if there's still elevted stuff, blood work.
I don't know. I have been pretty miserable on and off since friday and couldn't stand straight.I'll keep my eye on it

Where exactly is the pain? In your back/side (like your flank) or in your upper abdomen under your right rib cage?
How severe is it? Like can you function or is it excruciating like you'd give up military secrets?
I have had both kidney and gallstones (lucky me!) and the pain is pretty much similar in intensity but in a different location.
Gallstones are very very common after pregnancy as well

It was in both spots. Last night I couldn't stand up straight. It hurt so bad. I will keep my eye on it. It's gone now. It's very dull or sore.

Did you get an x-ray or CT scan? Or even an ultrasound?

Re: Uti or kidney infection?
I would go to the Er or a different dr. I have had kidney infections and the only symptom was pain so bad it made me throw up.

Re: Uti or kidney infection?
I agree. If you went to a GP and they didn't send you for an ultrasound or catscan, try getting into a urologist or go to the ER if you are still in pain. At least at the ER they have all the testing equipment right there.

Uti or kidney infection?
I went to my OB. I had a baby 7 weeks ago So I thought It could be related to postpartum or something. He just tested my urine and give a super quick exam. Like not even sure he did anything. I didn't like this dr at all. He just kinds dismissed anything I said.
Last night I woke with the pain again in my back. It was higher, like under my shoulder blade on the right side. Today I am feeling fine. I will see what happens tonight. If it happens again tonight I'll go to my reg dr

Re: Uti or kidney infection? Small UPDATE at bottom
Gall stones are very common during and after pregnancy. I had yo have my gallbladder out at 5 weeks post partum. You will probably need a sono to confirm

Uti or kidney infection? Small UPDATE at bottom
Yes they will give me ultra sound after blood work comes back. Just had another "attack".
Question. Did you have headaches with it? Trying to determine if it's allergies or related. They are really bad, painful ones.

You probably have gallstones. VERY VERY common during and after pregnancy. Pregnancy slows down your digestion and sludge tends to sit in your gallbladder longer and form stones.

Re: Uti or kidney infection? Small UPDATE at bottom
So I am in the hospital. Went to the ER at 5 am with back pain again. They admitted after getting a sono. I do have gall stones but it's not completely my gall bladder. They think a stone is stuck in a bike duct. I also have a uti (unaware didn't hurt) and pancreatitis. I'm a big mess. Waiting for a MRI now to see where the stone is. Sounds like and endoscopy to take out the stone and a good possibility of removing gall bladder. I need a ton of fluids to calm down the pancreas first.

OMG that sucks. So sorry! My mom had a stone stuck in her bile duct. They waited for it to go back into her gallbladder and as soon as it did they removed her gallbladder. I guess it depends on where in the duct it is and if they think it will go back in the gallbladder.
And I heard that this can affect your pancreas, so yeah that makes sense with the pancreatitis.
I hope you feel better soon and are on the road to recovery.
Good luck! Keep us posted.

I had laparoscopic surgery and it was a breeze. Had the surgery around 1030 am and went home at 330 pm. I was sore, but not excruciating pain. I think I only took my percocets the first day and that was it.
The next night I went out to dinner with DH. I was just sore and a little slow moving for those first few days. But the pain of the gallstone attacks were WAY worse than the pain post op- in fact I woke up from surgery feeling just SO happy that I wouldn't be having those awful pain attacks anymore. Such a free feeling!
Within a week I was 100% and went back to work.
I had 4 small incisions- one in my belly button, a one inch incision in my upper abdominal that was super light and thin (and barely detectable now) and 2 tiny holes in my side. Amazing that they can remove an organ with no big incisions and scars now! No stitches- just surgical glue.
It was really an easy surgery for me.
You can eat your normal diet afterwards. No restrictions.
GL. Let me know if you have any other questions!
