UTI-- 2 yr old?

How do you know if a toddler has a UTI? My 2 yr old DD has been grabbing at the front of her diaper when she pees for a few days and seems a little bothered. She doesn't seem in pain but just pulls at it and walks funny for a bit. She doesn't have a fever and seems to be fine. I'm wondering if it is just she is becoming more aware of her peeing?

Would you make an appt? I am just not sure how they can check? How do they get a urine sample??

My daughter had to pee frequently and SCREAMED on the top of her lungs when she peed. She was also 3 years old and potty traine. We had to do a urine sample at the dr. Not sure how they would check on a child thats not potty trained.

I would make an appointment, but I make an appointment for everything lol! A UTI is not something you want to play around with. I once thought my DD had one (she was about 15 months and she didn't thank goodness), but I collected the sample myself. It was a pain in the butt, but I put her in the bathtub and when she peed, I collected it in a cup.

Her doctor said they could collect a sample by putting a bag over her bottom half?? This sounds like it would be a mess, but I don't know how else they would get a urine sample from such a little one. Good luck!

I think she would be very uncomfortable and like pp said, cry or scream.

DD just trained about 1 1/2 months ago and she started to grab the front of her diaper almost every time she went.

Do you use the words pee-pee or something like that? Ask her did you go pee-pee? Do you need to be changed and see what she says. Dd would tell me when she went like that
