Found out tonight we are going to have to try injectables. Dr. said we can do injectables with iui or go straight to ivf which has higher success rate. Insurance does not cover any infertility treatments and medications. Hubby and I are very upset and at a loss of what since we clearly can't afford these next steps. Any been in the same boat and can offer advice??

def try injectable IUI before IVF. there is NO reason to spend the money on IVF when your dx is just PCOS. good luck!

I tried injectable IUI's with limited insurance. It was very $$ but I have an amazing DS from my 3rd month of injectables. I have 2 mutations on the MTHFR gene, PCOS, elevated fsh, high lh etc etc. I didn't even look into IVF. First step was IUI's, 2nd was medicated IUI's (just femera) and 3rd was Injectables...3rd time was a charm :) good luck!

My IVF nurse told me many people donate their meds once they achieve a pregnancy. Not sure how to go about getting what you need, but it's worth a try.
Not sure exactly how much the IUI costs but people say its not a lot.
Good luck!! Chat Icon

I am only able to do IVF so i'm completely up to speed on how you feel. We sat down with the billing/insurance dept yesterday to go through everything and i nearly fell off the chair! States like CT & NJ have unlimited IVF or something up to 9 times. It's insane! NY a few years ago (@ a high level) had a pot of money for couples who made under 200k and were doing IUI/IVF. The billing dept didn't know if it was going to be renewed again this year but it's something to check out. Also, i'd ask your dr. if they can shop around for you with the meds. The meds were actually cheaper for us though a local pharmacy vs. going through our insurance...sounds crazy but it's true!
We don't have coverage either but it's a bit different when the dr. tells me that's the only way i can ever get pregnant...
I'm pretty sure they allow you to pay in installments too.

Hope this helps!

I have heard there is a medical credit card with low interest rates. Also ask your doctor if they have donations or samples maybe....
