Updating mac os system
I want to update my mac operating system but I read something instructing you to backup your files first. The external hard drive I bought is only compatible with 10.9 or higher so I can't back up my files until I update my OS. Is it safe to update my OS without backing up my files?

i wouldn't. Everything should always be backed up before you do it. just in case. You can buy a small inexpensive EHD that is compatible to your computer now.
Also, when you do the update, make sure the programs you current;y have on your computer will work with the newest update. I haven't done it because I have some old programs I don't want to replace.
