It really all depends on what dpo you are... when the baby implanted... What really matters is that it at least doubles 48hrs later. If you were to do a poll you would get a range of betas from 10-200. The only indicator that things are going the way they should is that second beta!
In all honesty, the first number doesn't really matter. What's important is that it doubles in 48-72 hours. In general, however, I think they like to see something above 25. There are women who have had really low numbers who have gone on to have healthy pregnancies. Then you have someone like me, who had an initial beta of 269 for my second pregnancy, only to have it go down two days later.
like everyone else says, the first number isnt as important as how it rises. for some reference only - i had two chemicals. the first was a beta of 5 at like 17dpo and didnt come up on an HPT. second was 42 at 14DPO and got lots of +HPTs. but it didnt double at all and I m/c a week later. this BFP that stuck my beta was 197 at 8dp5dt (13DPO), but two implanted so it was a beta based on twins (even though only one progressed past the sac).
you'd want the number to not be SUPER low (like a 5 or a 15), but even those sometimes end up being normal pregnancies. so dont focus too much on the number this time. how many DPO/dp ET are you?
A healthy beta at 14dpo should be 50 and over....this is of course in a monitored cycle when you know the exact day of O (IVF)....IUI's beta are usually much higher.....
