Updated question-most unique homemade shower gift
Update- I was all set to make a diaper cake that looked like a truck I found on pinterest and then her sister told me she's doing cloth diapers!! Now I'm at a total loss! What else can I make?
mom of MUCH older kids crashing here!
My cousin's wife is pregnant with their first. They are a very cool, fun couple, not traditional at all.
Her shower is coming up and I would love to make something(in addition to the registry gift I already bought) that will be fun but also useful or meaningful in someway.
I've been searching pinterest & i see some diaper cakes that are shaped like motorcycles but are diaper cakes played out? They aren't into motorcycles either. What is a really AMAZING homemade shower gift? I'm pretty crafty so I'm ok with a challenge.

most unique homemade shower gift
I got a.gorgeous knitted blanket cardigan and headband. My dd is 15 months and i use the blanket. My mil gave me her great grandmothers knitted bib and put it in a shadowbox for me
Someone bought a basket in the shape of a carriage and put all small stuff i registeted for like pacis, bibs, spoons, plates and then put 2 cute outfits on sticks on it. And a cute babys first teddy bear in the carriage. It was gorgeous all wrapped in celophane.

A friend of mine made a "basket of firsts". She included one of those first year frames that you could put a picture in each month , she collected bibs for each holiday that said "my first...." she also included a couple of outfits for Christmas, fathers day, and her first birthday. It was such a cute idea and she had obviously put a lot of thought into it!

Love this idea.
And I don't think diaper cakes are played out. My friend made me a beautiful one for my sprinkle & I was so happy to see it, they're so fun & functional, & great bc you can personalize it w sports stuff, the baby's room theme, etc. You don't have to make it a specific shape if it isn't something that makes sense for them. But I've seen some other cute ideas on Pinterest like a caterpillar that was adorable if you really like the idea of a shape other than a cake. Good luck!

i got this as a gift too and loved it! in addition to the bibs and outfits, we got books - my first Christmas, my first thanksgiving etc
i also like diaper cakes and if you are crafty, a knit blanket, hat & bootie set is great

I made a basket idea too. I got the bath tub, and put items into it that were useful for the first year. I also gave the snap and go with it. Inside the tub I put: desitin tripple paste a&d buggy wipes bumpkins bibs hair care set toothbrush set sponge for the tub my favorite book for newborns - baby love zip up sleeper swaddle sleeper thing lanisoh
I think you can give more or less depending upon your budget.
I then spent a few minutes and made a video with the mom to be and explained everything. How to give a bath, how to change a diaper, how to swaddle, how to shush and help relieve gas. She seemed really appreciative of all of the info and the items.

I made diaper babies for my friend's baby shower! You roll up the diapers in a cylinder shape, then use little wash cloths to "swaddle" them, add a sock on each baby head as a "hat" and either glue on little eyes or draw them yourself. I put them in a basket and added a bath towel to the mix. I thought they came out exceptionally cute

Not homemade but if you have time to collect I often do a clothes line of holiday bibs. Halloween, thanksgiving, 1st bday etc. always a hit

Re: most unique homemade shower gift
For my friend's shower, we bought a make your own onesie kit from etsy. There were stencils, beautiful fabrics, and the iron-on paper. We just had to buy plain onesies. We made a bunch - animals, cupcakes, fruit, etc. The onesies came out adorable! We actually did it as a station where every guest could make, but it could also be a do-ahead sort of thing, and display via clothesline.

most unique homemade shower gift
One of my favorite shower gifts was actually for me and not LO. It was a basket with stuff I would need for the hospital and right after: robe, slippers, nursing tank, pjs, breast pads, maxi pads, granny panties, small toiletries for the hospital. It doesn't sound like a "fun" gift, but as a FTM I was ignorant as to what I would need and I was very thankful for that stuff.

For my friend's daughter's shower, I made 8 small diaper cakes to be used as the centerpieces. The bottom tier were size 2 diapers, the top tier size 1. Toppers were jungle themed beanie babies.

For my SIL, I made a topiary, and used washcloths, small bibs, socks, etc. It was really cute, and a huge hit. I'll see if I can find a pic to attach.

Re: Updated question-most unique homemade shower gift
Here is a link to one of the onesie topiaries that somebody made. I used more stuff in mine, so it was fuller. But what's nice is that you can make it as big or small as you like.
