UPDATE OVER A YEAR LATER: ***GASP*** Just signed a major renovation contract!!!
I'm so excited yet so nervous!!!
We're adding 1,200 SF to our existing home which is about 1,000 SF. The addition will include a garage, family room, playroom, master bedroom, master bath and regular bedroom plus some closets.
I can't wait for this to be done and really hope it isn't as aggrivating as people say
Update: 12/17/10 - I had to search for this post because after 1 year and 4 months we FINALLY got a meeting with the town board of adjustment for our variances. Holy cow....what a rollercoaster and who knows where it will even go from here. Wish us luck...meeting on 1/5/11 and then we'll see. In the meantime we're expecting baby #2 due in March. Renovations with a newborn should be a treat
Once we actually start (if we ever do) I'll post some progress pics.

Take pics of EVERYTHING...  We added about 1500 s/f last year, and it's great having pics of the insides of the house. I know where every wall stud is, every pipe, etc. It makes it easier if you want to put something in or on the walls, or anytime you want to make any changes to anything.
I would also suggest starting a blog. You can write updates every day, or every few days, and if people ask for updates, you can just point them to the blog, and you don't have to remember what you did or didn't tell everyone about.

Thats crazy that you havent started yet. What town are you in? Stay away from RMC Restorations if you havent chosen a contractor yet.
