Update on my ovaries
The dr called, I have to go for a 3 day transfer today. Everything I read online (I know, I know) says the only reason to do a 3 day is if the embryos aren't doing well and don't look like they'll make it to day 5. Says rates are better for day 5.
I'm sitting here sobbing.
Anyone have success with a 3 day transfer????????
UPDATE: Thanks so much ladies. The dr. explained that she does 3 day transfers 95% of the time. She likes the uterine environment better than a petri dish : )
BUT....I have bigger fish to fry. I went for a pre-transfer exam, and my ovaries are big. And there's fluid in my uterus. She says I'm at risk for hyperstimulation, and that the pregnancy hormone could make it worse. She said if I got pregnant with twins, it increases my risk. But if I only put 1 egg in, my chances are 45% to get pregnant as opposed to 65% with 2. I have to say I really have not been dealing well with this whole thing and had told my husband I would never do it again. I'm embarrassed that I'm not as strong as so many of you. And because I'm a teacher, even if I wanted to do it again, realistically I'd have to wait for next summer. So after all that consideration, we decided on transferring 2 today. But I am SO SCARED. TERRIFIED. I really hope I'm not being stupid and possibly hurting myself. But I have trusted my dr so much throughout this whole process, and I really can't believe that she would do something unsafe.
UPDATE 8/10: Well, I went for monitoring/bloodwork today. I've been feeling better--not 100%, but definitely better--and was expecting to get good news. The good news: the fluid in my uterus has gone down, my belly is the same size, and I've actually LOST a few lbs (probably the fluid) since Thursday. The bad news: My left ovary is DOUBLE the size it was Thursday. Not good. She said she's concerned. I go back Monday for my beta (fingers crossed!!!) and more monitoring.
Do you want to know how sick I am? I'm remembering that she said the pregnancy hormone could make it worse, so I'm actually a little bit excited about this. Also a little terrified. Please send some ovary-shrinking dust my way!

Re: 3 day transfer? Freaking out.
Your uterus is a better incubator for those embryos than anything they could have in their lab! It might just already be clear which embryos are the strongest. Lots of girls get BFPs from 3day transfers!!!! Good luck! Stay positive!!

Re: 3 day transfer? Freaking out.
I had success with a 2-day transfer. There are a lot of reports that embryos do better inside the uterus than out.
Good luck

Re: 3 day transfer? Freaking out.
Lots of IVF babies come from 3 day transfers. In fact, up until recently that is how most transfers were done. My understanding is that 3 day transfers are done now most often when there are not a lot of embies available to take the chance of losing some along the way to day 5.

Re: 3 day transfer? Freaking out.--UPDATE
3 day isnt the worst thing in the world. the fact that they are letting you transfer with risk of OHSS is a good sign. if your risk was very high they wouldnt let you transfer and they would freeze for FET.
i had very mild OHSS with my IVF. my e2 was in the 6000's around transfer and my ovaries were enlarged, but not enough to cancel the cycle. we put back two blasts and both took. a few days after BFP I got insanely (like 6 months pregnant) bloated and it was hard to walk and move around. i had a lot of fluid build up and gained 9lbs of fluid. by my 6week sono it had gone down and we found out that both embies took but only one had a heartbeat and developed, the other was a smaller sac.
i would still put back two if i were you. one is so risky to have a BFN or something else. you have to be OK with having twins if you put two back. also not everyone gets OHSS so although its a risk its not a guarantee that you would get it, and even if one implanted you could still get it. i would still put back 2. find out how high your e2 is to determine the real OHSS risk. good luck!!

Re: 3 day transfer? Freaking out.--UPDATE
I did a 3 day transfer and I am almost 24 weeks pregnant!!! I had extremely swollen ovaries and a fairly high E2 level before my transfer ~ in fact my ovaries are still very swollen b/c of the high level of horomones. OHSS is no joke so just make sure to listen to your doctor in terms of activity level and what you should drink. I also wanted to let you know we chose to do a 3 day over a 5 day transfer this time. We went with a new doctor who switched it up a bit. Wishing you lots of luck!!!

Re: Update on my ovaries
Good Luck! for both of us on Monday!!!
Since you're taking the progesterone shot - could that being affecting the ovary? Maybe if your levels are good on Monday, they will decrease the frequency of the prog shot?

Re: Update on my ovaries
i had mild OHSS and when i was waiting for my beta, around 3dp5dt (around 7dpo) all of my bloating went away and i felt normal. i was soooo afraid that it meant that it didnt work because i heard OHSS is magnified when HCG is present. a few days later i got my BFP. a few days after that I BLEW up and gained 9lbs of fluid in about 48hours and the OHSS returned with a vengeance.
dont take any of it as a sign either way!! good luck!!!

Re: Update on my ovaries
I totally feel your pain. My ovaries took awhile to fully get larger and then took (are taking) forever to shrink. As Flowerwife said - try not to read into it too much. Mine didn't become extremely enlarged until about 2 weeks later when I had my first beta. I was very bloated right away and my stomach felt as hard as a rock and I could barely fit into my regular clothes. I found wearing leggings and comfy clothes was key. Wishing you lots of luck!!!
