UPDATE: 7/8 PM
I got it on video... i'm glad there's no sound b/c I was coaching her through it the whole time. lol
SHE DID IT!

We installed a kitty door on our laundry room door so we can put her cat litter in there and we tried to get her to go through it today, but she refuses! She's a little skiddish to begin with so when she hears the sound of the door swinging she freaks out. We couldn't even push her through b/c she freaked and does that deep meow that I hate!
We tried putting treats on the other side, but when she's scared she wants no part of them.
DH sat in the laundry room with her and held the kitty door up and pushed her through and she finally went out, but how can we get her to use it on her own?

our cat freaked out the first time we used a little box with a door - he couldn't figure it out at first but when he had to go, he found a way in.
give her a little time - i am guessing when she smells the litter, and has to go, she will use the door

a friend of mine tried putting a little wet food on the other side of the door and that made their cat jump through...after that, no problems.

we installed the hole without the actual door part first. Once she was able to get throught the hole, we put the door on and showed her how to do it a couple times (and gave her some treats).

it might take a while, but keep in mind that she would probably prefer to use her litter over anything else... she will come around

They will usually freak out at first. Mine wouldn't go into the covered litter box at first took her a day or so to get used to it because when you have to go you have to go. Don't worry as the others said when she really has to go she will use it and find her way.

UPDATE!!!
So last night I put her food and water by the laundry room door and she kept looking at the kitty door while she was eating. She knows her litter is in there. So I kinda helped her through the door (after a bit of a fight)... then she went to the bathroom in her litter pan. I waited outside the door and when she was done she was pawing at the kitty door and finally jumped through on her own after a few minutes!!!  I should have gotten it on video, it was really cute.

Omg the video is adorable! She got big! I remmeber the pics you posted when she was a kitty! Dont they grow up so fast!!!

Hey Jess--it seems her collar is a little loose. Does it have a tighter setting?
I once had a cat almost hang herself because she was jumping down from the windowsill and got her collar caught on one of the kitchen chairs.

I was going to mention that too. They get stuck on stuff so easily! I always tend to go too loose too thinking it's uncomfortable, but it's safer tighter.
She's the cutest thing ever!!!!

I think her collar has the safety feature on it so if she gets caught it will fly off. It's happened once where she was trying to get one of her toys under the couch and all of a sudden her collar broke off her neck. The safety feature releases if it gets pulled too hard.
I'll see if I can tighten it anyway... show tight should it be? Should I be able to fit two fingers through?

Yes she grew up SO fast, but she's still very petite which I love!
