Update
I wanted to start by saying how incredibly touched I feel that some of the wonderful women here still have me in their thoughts.
My husband and I are beginning marriage counseling tomorrow.
It is much needed at this point, because on my end I have really started to check out. Lots of old issues I have had with him have come to the surface after years of pushing them away.
I am afraid that I may be going to couseling purely for his sake. When I think honestly, deep down, what I want is to end it. Not over that one night, more of how that night came as a slap in the face after many years of me already standing by him. I have always loved my husband very much and recongnize some of his great qualities, but I feel that many of them were overshadnowed in the past.
I feel that here I am again, holding him up when he is down, when I'M the one who has been knocked down over and over. I don't understand why I have to give him a chance because now he "really" gets it, when he should have gotten it already.
I will keep you posted about how the counseling goes. If you have any thoughts on this, please feel free to FM me or respond openly here.
I am curious to see if there is anyone out there who has ended a marriage without going to counseling or if anyone has a similar situation.

Good luck with the counseling. I'm not married, so I cant' really offer any advice, but see how you feel after being in counseling a little while.

I'm glad you're going. Regardless of the reason you go, as long as you wind up in a place you want to be, it can't hurt.

I just want to say that I think you are doing the right thing by going for counseling...it may help or it may not. But, at least you're going to try and I say that sometimes that is better to do than just ending the marriage...unless the circumstances are truly CLEAR that you should get out.

I want to wish you luck...and tell you that if nothing else, counseling will probably clear things up for you.
I was married to an alcoholic and it wasn't until I went for counseling that I actually found the strength to leave.
I also recommend going to see someone on your own, either in conjuction with a couples counseler or just by itself.

I just wanted to send you some  and wish you luck with whatever path you choose. I also agree with what was posted above that you should try to see your own therapist at least once a week right now to help you work through this. Whether you stay with him or not, you need to be healed.

I agree. Also, counseling will help you to have an amicable split if that is what you decide to do. At least you will be working out your feelings in a safe place.
