UPDATE - Ovulation Question - Please Help!
I'd like to preface this with, "I'm sorry if this is a stupid question buuut..."
I took my first OPK test today and the line is somewhat hazy. I really wanted to do it yesterday as that's what the chart (that came with the test) recommended but unfortunately I forgot. For the record, I do intend to do another test tomorrow just to be sure. At any rate, as I was taking the test, a thought occurred to me...
Would it be possible to get a false positive with these tests? Meaning, would it be possible to have an LH surge but still not drop an egg?
I'm asking b/c (as some of you know) I was on DepoProvera for a long time and I didn't have a period. When I spoke to my doctor about coming off she said it could take up to 18 months just to get a period. Well fast forward, I've been very lucky and AF came only 6 months after my last shot. The only thing is that my doctor also said it would be possible that even though I got my period I still may not ovulate. Hence, I started testing.
So do you think it's possible that I could surge but not drop an egg?
Thanks Ladies!!!
ETA: UPDATE!!
I tested again today and the test line was much darker and more pronounced than the first test so it would certainly seem like I ovulated.
Thank you for your responses ladies, I really appreciate it!!

Re: Ovulation Question - Please Help!
I can't answer your question but I can recommend using the clearblue easy digital opk...they seem a lot easier than the others...you either get a circle if you're not ovulating or a smile face if you are...it takes the guess work out of ovulation and is more definitive than the lines which can be light and confusing! Hope this helps a little!! Good luck!!

Re: Ovulation Question - Please Help!
The basic answer is yes - you can get a surge and not ovulate.
From everything I learned while TTC the one thing that truly sticks out is that your luteal phase (from ovulation to the onset of your next cycle) is the same lenght from month to month - whether it's 12 days or 16 days or whatever, but what changes the length of your cycle is from CD1 to ovulation. Anything from stress to illness can change what CD you ovulate on.
So for example, let's say you get a surge on CD 12, but get on a plane on CD 13 - that could delay ovulation.
HTH!!!

I meant the line isn't very dark, but was definitely visible.
Thanks ladies...

Re: Ovulation Question - Please Help!
A positive OPK (w/ lines) is when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. In most cases, you'll always get a line as you'll always have some measure of LH in your urine stream. The key is a spike in the amount of LH, which would make the test line dark.
To be honest, these OPK's are incredibly confusing to me, I would always always be second guessing it. I used the Clear Blue Easy Digital ones b/c there's no guesswork involved (you either get an empty circle - negative - or a happy face - positive). They're more expensive but if you only have to use them one or two months... well, then they're totally worth the investment

You havent ovulated yet - you will always get two lines. The test is positive when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. You usually need to test for a few days from when the chart recommends before getting a positive. good luck!

I just wanted to make sure you were aware - After your first day of a positive OPK/LH surge, you are predicted to ovulate in the next 12 to 48 hours (according to the test directions). You have not yet ovulated if this was your first day of a positive reading.
