UPDATE - ER thank god that's over!!! Tongue surgery...
DS went to get his tongue surgery this morning...I was expecting the absolute worst...and by any standards he was a complete angel!!! I posted last week about being worried about not being able to feed him because of the anesthesia. So I woke him up at midnight and gave him a bottle. Then he was allowed to have apple juice up until 5am (surgery was at 7am) so I gave him dilutet juice for the first time and he was fine. No crying at all.
For those Jersey ladies, if you ever need to have any minor surgery I highly recommend the Short Hills Surgery Center in Millburn. It is a new, gorgeous facility. Very clean and the staff was wonderful. They took him in and I prepped him with his gown, socks, and hat (which was the same size as the hat they gave me to wear so he looked so silly). I wish I brought
my camera. They let me be with him until just after they gave him the anesthesia. So I saw him go out. It was a liittle weird and upsetting but truthfully I was so overwhelmed by the OR that it all went sort of fast and before you know it they were escorting me out. And the lady escorting me out was holding me as if they thought I'd be unable to control myself (i kind of feel bad looking back that I wasn't as broken up as they thought I should be -- does that make me a bad mom?) I guess because he was happy and smiley all morning and I was so relieved about it that by that point I was ok. It was all over in 4 minutes. As a matter of fact, we didn't even get back to the waiting room before the doc was out telling us it all went fine (had to warm up his bottle).
And then waking up from the anesthsia they couldn't believe it...he was smiling and fine!!! I know that's definately not normal considering that I was there when two other babies woke up and it was gut-wrenching. But someone was on my side this morning because he was so content and happy and I am so gratetful.
I know this was only a minor thing that people get done all the time but based on the hooplah of the anesthesia I was really worried that it would be tramatic on him, DH and I.
We're home now, he's eating like normal. And from about the time I got him in the recovery room until now all he does is stick out his tongue which he could never do before ... I think we've created a monster.

update -- i guess it was too good to be true...I was reading him a story for bedtime this evening at around 8pm. He was laying next to me. I looked over at him and he was covering in blood (all over his face, pjs and the bed). I was freaked. Called the doc, got it to stop, but then it started again. So we had to go to the ER. It was packed but they took us right away. He started bleeding heavily at that point. I didn't mention above that he didn't need any stiches this morning because he never bled. Well, apparently he tore the frenulum himself. At the time I noticed he was bleeding he was jamming his pacifier in his mouth. Anyway, back at the ER they were trying to cortirize (sorry, don't know how to spell) it but couldn't get it all because he was screaming. SO then we were going to have to put him out again, we get all ready to go back to the OR and then realized we couldn't because he ate his bottle at 7pm which would mean they would have to intubate him which I was uncomfortable with. We were able to control the bleeding for now but have to monitor him all night and follow up in the morning. They were going to admit him but we really wanted to come home because it seems as if he is ok now. Except that he is coughing a lot for some reason so hope that doesn't turn into something else...poor poor baby.

Glad to hear everything went well. DS is tongue tied too and will need to have his frenulum snipped. He is 9 1/2 mo. I posted the either day about being undecided about whether to do it in a surgeons office and just localized anesthetic but after the dr. told me how he does it there was no way I could put him through that. DH and I decided to wait until after his 1st b-day and take him to the hospital to have it done under general anesthesia. It is only the "funny" mask and like you said it really only lasts 5 min. tops.

ooh please keep us updated about the little guy. I hope the bleeding has still subsided and he is aok all thru the night. I am so happy the er took you guys in right away, there is nothing worse than sitting in the waiting room with someone who is hurt/ in pain I can only imagine how hard it is if that person is your child.

he made it through the night without any more bleeding so hopefully whatever they did last night worked. We'll talk to the doctor at 7am and decide at that point. Hopefully it is behind us now. Thanks!
