Until I can get her insurance active....

What did the peds have you do for your DC at their 4 month checkup in terms of foods.

She already has rice cereal for her reflux, and she has enjoyed eating it when i've given it to her a few times in the past.

Do I move onto oatmeal and/or barley now?

At what point have your peds told you to start fruits/veggies.... Do you start with one versus the other first?

Any info that you could give me would be great!

Thanks once again ladies! Chat Icon Chat Icon

We were supposed to start with veggies first, then introduce fruit (because they like fruit more than vegetables & you don't want them to refuse veggies).

Try them in the mornings or for lunch so you can see any reactions she may have to them. Since I worked, most first time food was on a weekend & for 3-5 days (overkill) to get them used to it.

I introduced jarred food way too late (8 months) & had gagging issues. Not sure what the current recommendation is for introducing it.

After the rice, I was told to go on to the oatmeal and then the barley. After that I was told to do orange veggies first (carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, etc) because they are easier to digest. Then do fruits. We weren't told to start meats until 6 months. I was told at 4 months that I could start foods but I didn't start til 5 months b/c Marron seemed content with the milk.

Re: Until I can get her insurance active....

I was just told no vegetables until 5 months. Rice, oatmeal then barley (but we're not doing barley bc DD is highly allergic) and then we added fruit one at a time.

But you don't HAVE to give solids now if you don't want to. You can wait a little longer. They say you should start between 4 and 6 months. The only reason I started was because DD was getting so hungry she was about to gnaw through the rails on her crib. Chat Icon I actually wanted to wait until she was at least 5 months.
