Unsettling Dreams (Nightmares)

what do you do to calm yourself down?

Here's my dream:
- the gist was that it was in my house (but before renovation about four years ago)
- but it was like today (present) and both my mom & julien (my younger brother) passed away in some type of an accident
- so i'm in my old bedroom (Julien's bedroom now) and i'm depressed/mourning and trying to sleep
- then ricky (my husband) comes in

sidenote: (i was watching law & order last night) - which is where this part comes in:

- and i ask ricky "when we were separated, did you sleep w/anyone else"
and he goes "yes, and I got her pregnant"
- so i kick him out of the house; tell him i want a divorce but he wouldn't leave the house and i just kept screaming for him to leave and let me be with my father and anthony (my other brother)

needless to say i woke up crying and screaming at like 7:10 a.m. and I cannot shake this feeling...I couldn't even LOOK at my own husband this morning!

Re: Unsettling Dreams (Nightmares)

I've had dreams like that. I had a dream that my sister committed suicide and I woke up crying hysterically and FH couldn't get it into my head that it was just a dream...Chat Icon

It's an uneasy feeling, but just keep telling yourself it was a dream. Tell you DH about your dream, he'll probably reassure you that it was just a dream and that you're crazy (I get that all the time!). That wierd feeling like something major just happened will pass. It took about a day and talking to my sister about the dream and calling her almost every hour until the feeling went away.

I have these very realistic nightmares that dh is cheating on me, and that his family who I get along decently with, is madly in love with his mistress...I always wake up hysterically crying whenever I have these, they just feel so real, some days he sneaks out of bed to make breakfast early, or he will be in the shower, so when I roll over hes not there and its 100 times worse.

I just take a few deep breaths, if dhs there he will talk me through it, if hes not there ill go find him....the dreams haunt me for days, but I just try to push it to the back of my mind

Re: Unsettling Dreams (Nightmares)

I've had dreams where one of my brothers had passed and I wasn't ok until I spoke with them. I think it is only natural for you to be so unsettled after such a horrible thought.

OMG Chrissy - I have the worst dreams every night - I once shared a bad dream with my therapist, and she told me that night she was freaked out in her own home thinking about it!!! Chat Icon

Re: Unsettling Dreams (Nightmares)

I've heard that wierd and disturbing dreams are more common if you eat something late in the evening?

Don't know if it's true, but it could be related to a natural increase in blood sugar level while sleeping Chat Icon

It's true. I also (and I tried this myself, as did a few of my friends) found that that if you eat something w/heavy dairy (especially ice cream) you have nightmares!

I watched law and Order too last night and I definately think it played a big role in your dream.
