universal pre-k?
I know my town does not offer a pre-k program but I thought I heard of some towns that have a lottery where some kids can be eligible to attend for free. Does anyone know about anything about this?

It's not town dependent, it's district dependent. Some offer it, some don't. Mine does.

Some districts have UPK and some don't. This is what's posted on my district's website regarding UPK:
The Commack Union Free School District anticipates funding for a Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program for the 2014-2015 school year; there are a limited number of openings available.
The UPK half-day program meets five days per week at local preschools and follows the District calendar. Students are selected by a randomized lottery system and only one application per child is accepted. If your child's application is selected in the lottery, registration is required. Please note that the district does not provide transportation.
Parents and guardians of students who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2014, are invited to submit an application for the lottery. If you are interested in the UPK Program, please MAIL OR DROP OFF the ENTIRE form by May 9, 2014, to the Registration Office at Hubbs Administration Building. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Linda Caccamo at 912-2028.

universal pre-k?
I would call you districts central office for info. Our SD offers it 5 days a week for 2 1/2 hours. My DD LOVES it. We are in the Bay Shore SD. No lotto, everyone gets it here. The SD oversees it but it's actually through the Bay Shore YMCA.

Thanks for the replies, I had no clue about anything.
I'm going to call my district for info, I can't seem to find anything helpful on line.

My district (Riverhead) offers it. 5 days 2.5 hrs & its a great head start. My D liked it. Busing also provided.
