I also say prunes. I kept them on hand solely for that purpose... they took about 12 hours to work but they certainly did the trick!
Yes! Although I learned my lesson it takes 12 hours. Gave it to DS on Tuesday b/c he hadn't pooped for a few days. I thought the prunes would work and that night he'd poop... I was wrong.
Picked him up from daycare Wed night and low and behold he was wearing different pants than I put him in that day and there was that fun plastic bag in his cubby. I know what fun stuff I'll find in there. Prunes worked too well

i kept baby food prunes (Gerber has them in stage 1) available only in times of need  when he was a little backed up!
My kids are forever constipated. I did this alot (still do at times and they are 2 and 3.) Although now they both will just eat a real prune (without the pit of course.) My DD loves them.
ETA prunes can be very gassy too. If that's an issue go with pear nectar. Goya has one. Not just pear juice. It has more fiber.
We've been put on Miralax by the ped because they just couldn't go otherwise.

I bought a basket of plums at trader Joe's and steamed them (they're delicious I make them often wilth a bit of vanilla and cinnamon stick for me too) Anyway, for him they are plain, I puree just as I would any other veggie/fruit and give it to him. He loves it, now I mix it in with another fruit if I know he needs a bm.

apples with no skins. the skins make his poop hard.
water to help w the hard poopy. chamomile tea to help w the gas
