my friend is having her basement finished. With all materials & labor - walls, floors, plumbing, bathroom, electrical, heat, bar, etc is $29k. I believe it would add close to or under 1,000 sq ft.

I adore my handyman! He is seriously the best and I trust him 100%. But of course I am wondering if this price is competitive.
We have a huge basement ... to finish the entire thing (labor only) is 9,000. Also that DOES include rough materials. But we supply flooring and closet doors, etc.
This includes building closets, having builtins put in, and of course waterproofing, electric, sheet rock, installing tile floor ... from soup to nuts. He doesnt leave until we are 100% happy.
So, my question is ... how much does it usually cost to get a basement done by professionals?

That sounds really good. We're in the process of having ours done (it should be finished this week!) and I think we're coming in between $18-$20k (dh is handling all of the bills/payments). We added a full 2nd bath & I believe close to another 800 sq. feet down there.

I would say yes. My parents paid $17 about 15 yrs ago, so going based off that...yeah I would say so.
I always vote for tile in basement bc of water, washer, dryer possibly flooding etc.

yes it's a good price...we just finished our 600 square foot basement (DH did 90% of it himself, we hired people for some things) and it cost us about $10k
ETA: I know most people do tile in basements, but we chose carpet on the stairs and the floor bc we made it open as part of our house, and we have a little one and we felt the carpet was safer.

That is a great price. We just paid about the same to do ours- a little more because we added a half bath. But our price included all materials, doors and electric work. We did buy the ceiling fans, overhead lights for the closets, outlet covers, door handles, and paid for carpeting. And for the bathroom they did the work, but we purchased the sink and toilet and the overhead lighting and we used the left over tiles from our kitchen renovations. They did the instalation of EVERYTHING.

that price sounds almost too good to be true. DH just finished ours himself and it cost about that. if he is serious about that price, I'd go for it!
ETA we did tile in all of the basement except the new guest room where we did hardwood.

I just wanted to let you know that we contacted Al, and he will be doing our basement as well! I wasn't there to meet him, but DH really liked him! Thanks again for the recommendation!

That is a fabulous price!
We paid about $10k to have ours finished. IT also helps when DH is an Architect and he has contractor friends.
I'd love to see the pics!

My friends husband was doing my den and he was doing like 1-3 hrs 1 or 2x's per week. It was NEVER going to get done at that rate. He sheetrocked and put on primer...i need a bathroom and kitenette area finished as well as painting and carpet and tile.
Do you think Al can do the job???
I called him today, he was working but will hopefully swing by today or tomorrow.
