Tylenol ? Help!
Ok, so I know Tylenol is safe to use. When I asked my former OB if extra strength 500 mg tabs were ok...she said yes...any tylenol was fine.
Now today, I went to target to stock up and they were totally sold out of all tylenol ( ), so I grabbed the Target brand and asked the pharmasict if I was buying the right thing. The pharmacist said it was fine...but I should only take 250 mg tabs at a time...and never more than that.
Uhm...is this true? If it is...I have been totally overdosing on the tylenol this entire time!!!!

I can't help you with the dose, but Tylenol was pulled off the shelves for a recall a while ago.

whoaaaaa how did I miss that? it makes so much sense now. I was baffled as to how Target would be out of tylenol! Thanks for the info!

I went to walmart a couple weeks ago and no tylenol on the shelves... I bought the walmart brand and they are 500mg... I just take one... Its totally fine

I know, I thought it was weird when my SIL went to get me Tylenol and she said there was NO brand name Tylenol in Wal-mart. Then DH said it was recalled.
But, maybe I can help with the dose, my doctor told me when I start to get one of my migraines take 2 regular strength Tylenol...HTH!

I buy no name brand tylenol. Ob told me to only take regular strength. But if all i have is x strength i just take half dose.

I take up to 2 xtra strength Tylenol when I need it. My OB is fine with it. It's my 3rd pregnancy and it's what I've always taken!

Tylenol brand has been on and off the shelves for a long time due to recall(s). Last recall I read was due to question of efficacy. I never buy name brand anything though. Generic is always cheaper. And I take 2 extra strength when needed.

I was told no more than 250mg at a time. BUT that I could have a 250mg at 1pm for example and another 250mg at 2pm. But to space out the rest of the doses according to the bottle directions, from the 2pm dose. So if it were 4 hours apart the next 250mg pill would be at 6pm.

If I recall correctly, there was a news story a few months ago that Tylenol was changing their dosing recommendations. It was always that you could take two extra strength Tylenol (500 mg total). They changed the maximum dosage to 250 mg because people were mixing Tylenol with other meds that also contained acetaminophen and taking too much. For example, some cold medicines have a decongestant + acetaminophen, so if you took that and Tylenol, you would be taking too much acetaminophen.
It kind of annoys me that they changed the dosing because people aren't bright enough to check before mixing medications!
