Re: Landscaping along side the house
Typically, it's a great place for a flower bed, or just a rock or mulch strip of ground. Since I have a black thumb, I usually go with a rock garden. I've got a couple of them around my yard.
The only place I can get things to grow (weeds), is in the middle of my rock garden, though!

Re: Landscaping along side the house
We have hostas running along the northern border of our house, and a flower bed on the southern side. Go with hostas - zero maintenance!

Re: Landscaping along side the house
Hostas over here with lily of the Valley inbetween (fills up the space completely so I don't ever have to weed or anything), and on the other side I have russian lavender both are very low maintence and look beautiful!!!
