I was JUST coming on to post this.
And then you have CNN and other media outlets focusing on how terrible it is that the lives of the BOYS were ruined. I am so shocked and dismayed at everything going on surrounding this. Yes, they were kids, but they weren't FIVE! They know right from wrong. A 'mistake' is drinking too much, like that poor girl did. A 'mistake' is cheating on your algebra test. These boys did not make a mistake, they RAPED a girl. I just don't understand.

it's been a while since I'm on this site but I came back when i heard the verdict since I know it's something that was followed here.
I haven't seen it posted here yet...but I'm upset to report that Fox news released the name of the victim. They chose not to bleep it out.
This whole thing has got me so raving mad. How many more times does this girl need to be victimized?

I can't even read it....I will never forget one of the videos I saw. The kid recording was questioning his friend about the night, almost trying to make him see that it was wrong and he asked, " What if that was your daughter." The response : "I wouldn't care."
They are animals and the victim shaming making me ill.

I really think the world is full of kids who are takers instead of earners and see nothing wrong with it. They feel entitled to everything and are upset when they can't have it or they take it and get in trouble for it. I have this conversation with my students all the time (I work in jail). They think that because they have no money, they are entitled to steal someone's iPhone or money because they have nothing -- they don't get how he should get to keep it because he worked hard to get it. One of my students told me he doesn't believe in rape, especially if the person has slept with someone before. His aunt was raped and his mom told her and him that it was the aunt's fault. She let a stranger into her home and when he wanted sex and she refused, he took it. The student saw NOTHING wrong with that.

Obviously, but there is not much one can do to change the mind of a 17 year old who has been told by his mother his whole life that something like this isn't rape
