Tulips

I have been wanting tulips since last year but with a new baby, it just didn't happen. I'd really like to have some this year.

When do you plant? How? Any special care?

Am i too late?

Re: Tulips

normally you plant the bulbs in the fall for spring. BUT you can buy tulips that have bloomed in pots and then plant them in spring.

They get planted in the fall.

However I would talk to your neighbors or just take a look at your street and see if there are any tulips.

I wanted tulips as well, but my neighbor told me that the squirrels digs them up and eat the bulbs. I didn't listen and sure enough the squirrels ruined all the bulbs!

Tulip bulbs need to be planted in the fall. During the early spring (Easter) most nurseries carry full grown tulips which can be transplanted to your garden (we carry them)

And yeah squirrels love to dig up the bulbs and eat them (wonder what they taste like lol)

I plant my bulbs then put a square of chicken wire over them. Plant grows thru, squirrels can't eat the bulbs and I have flowers.

Do you have a bird feeder by chance? I ask because as long as I'm feeding the birds (and thus the squirrels, eating what drops to the ground), they limited themselves to that and the acorns.

I did cover the bulbs with chicken wire too, but I kept checking the ground for a couple of weeks and there were no telltale holes. They all came up that year.

You'll find out soon enough. Chat Icon

Re: Tulips

I planted bulbs in the fall for the first time, I'm hoping I get at least a few lil guys...I am worried because we have had ferrel (sp?) cats and they might have taken advantage.
