TSH Level

Hi I am new here, my husband and I have been TTC over a year and had a mc in 2012. Just had my bloodwork done and my TSH level was 3.48. and my doctor recommended a low dose of synthyroid. From what I have researched once you start taking this you can never stop. Has anyone been successful at lowering their TSH level without synthyroid? Any input appreciated.Chat Icon

You cannot lower your TSH without medication- the hormone is telling you body to have the thyroid produce more hormones. If you are hypothyroid then you NEED to be in medication. Low levels of thyroid hormone can lead to other health issues- I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and have been on synthroid for nine years. Aside from a short period of adjustment initially I have no side effects.

I just started synthroid also. I have been seeing my re since July and had countless blood test and never had an issues with my tsh . This month I got my bfp and in my first round of bloodwork my tsh came back at 6.9. Hoping the synthroid saves my pregnancy as I already had one miscarriage in December.

Best of luck to you!!

Re: TSH Level

It's not necessarily true that once you go on it you can never stop. Many people don't need to be on it for life. I probably will be, but my situation is different. If your TSH levels are too high or too low it can affect your ability to GET pregnant and also your ability to support a pregnancy. I'd listen to your doctor on this one. Good luck!
