Ridiculous. It won't matter. If someone wants to do harm, they will do it.
I am not downplaying any act of terror, but so many more people are killed by guns, and little to nothing ever changes on that front. So many more people have died that way than by terrorism.

Based on a quick Google search, it would apply to people immigrating from countries with a high terrorist rate that happen to be Muslim, and it also seems to be the same program we had under bush and Obama from 2002-2011.
Not quite as sensationalist as your thread topic implies.

And I agree with mrsP. Does anyone really think it will stop the suicide bomber or shooter Who comes here and doesn't value life or their own?
Will there be a registry for young white males who see psychologists and are on medication, because they may become school shooters? Where do we draw the line?

Not to mention this is a step backwards. Was a program, was amended and essentially eliminated. How about right wing Christians looking to immigrate have to register too? Or people from Northern Ireland?
And if the program was successfully amended, why bring it back? Clearly had no benefit from an intelligence POV. And where does it go from there? Stop it before it gets out of hand.

I don't see a problem with this? I know I am going to get flamed big time for this.
Ellis Island had a registry for immigrants. This would be kind of like that. I think it should be like that so that way people are registered, kept tabs on. We can make sure they are paying taxes and working their way to being citizens. What is wrong with that? And what is wrong with ensuring the safety of Americans?

legitimate question… I know a lot of right leaning people are so against a gun registry… They think that a gun registration would lead to a possible confiscation. But we know the guns kill people all the time. So why is it OK to have a Muslim registry but not a gun registry?

This may sound ignorant but does anyone know how immigration works? I would imagine you have to apply for a green card before coming here. Isn't everyone who has a green card essentially "registered?" It's not like they just open the gates and let anyone in. I think ALL immigrants should be registered because you should be here for a trial period while you face deportation if you commit a crime. I think until you are a US citizen the government should be keeping tabs on you. This should apply to everyone no matter where you are from.

Would you be opposed to it if it was not religion based but rather certain countries were placed on watch lists and immigrants from areas that have higher concentrations of terrorists and connections to ISIS had to register for a certain amount of time upon entering the states?
I wonder how Russians immigrants were handled during the cold war. Other than having all their neighbors whisper behind their backs that they were secretly spies.

Yes of course everyone entering the country who receives a visa is probably already registered. Thats why this is crazy- if what the stories we are hearing are true (solely based on religion or country)

How do you know how it would be? It sounds like they aren't even sure. Kris Kobach cited Japanese internment camps as precedent- for all we know maybe something similar is on the radar. They have not released any real details. Would people who are already here need to register? Would American born Muslims need to register?
People who are calling for this for the sake of safety seem to forget that American born Muslims have carried out terror, and 'normal white Americans' to borrow a phrase from another thread have also carried out terror. And as others have pointed out, toddlers have killed themselves and others with guns- the idea of ensuring safety is way more complex than forcing people of one faith to register.
I taught probably a few hundred Muslim students during the 16 years I was a teacher. I am way more afraid of my neighbor who I know has a small arsenal of guns than I was of any of them.

IMO, a gun registry would be along the same lines as a vehicle registry or motor vehicle, for safety reasons.
Singling out a religious group is ethically and morally wrong. The Madman Hitler did it with European Jews, and look what happened with that.
This orange Madman will never get such a registry approved. It will just further divide this country and alienate others.

I would need to see the evidence of the history of terrorism in the USA (is there enough evidence to support the above) to make a fair judgement on your question. My guess is that there arent enough actual terrorist attacks from people from these countries to support the proposed registry. Werent several "home grown"?
