George Zimmerman was told by the 911 operator to NOT pursue Trayvon. He continued to follow him. George Zimmerman is heard on the 911 tapes saying "They always get away with things" and "f**king coons".
Trayvon is heard on a 911 tape screaming in fear and distress. ( a woman called 911 saying there is a fight in front of her house).
The girl Trayvon was talking to said he was telling her that somebody was following him in a car and he was getting scared, she told him to run--those were his last words.
George Zimmerman being Hispanic doesn't mean that he wasn't racist.

I just need to add that Trayvon owed Zimmerman NOTHING. He was part of a neighborhood watch. He is NOT a police officer and he does NOT have the authority to "make" anybody do anything. This KID was walking home in his GATED community and was gunned down after being FOLLOWED by the same man that was TOLD by police to leave him alone. This is just sad and horrible. Racisim is Racisim no matter what color you are. It's not just a "white" vs everybody else thing.

and I really think Geraldo saying Trayvon's hoodie caused him to be a target was ridiculous. It was pouring rain outside. So kids wearing hoodies for a quick run in the rain to a store should be worried of getting shot bc they look suspicious?? I'm sorry but it's a horrible, sickening story and that man was stalking him with a gun. I would be terrified if there were "self appointed watchmen" here in ny allowed to run around chasing civilians with guns. Terrified.

I read this and couldn't believe what I was reading. One of the most absurd things I've ever read.
I don't remember who said it, but someone said it's like blaming a rape victim for wearing a skirt. I thought that was a pretty good comparison.

It goes without saying that this is a horrible, horrible tragedy.
I would LOVE it if someone could post a nonbiased version of what is going on. If it exists.
The posted article contradicts other news reports I have read in many ways.
Most of my students are black males and I am talking about this case in my government class and I really want to give them actual facts.
I have heard that even the police tapes have been whitewashed.

Same here.
I had read about "the talk" & "the rules" a long time ago. I was stunned back then at the time how black parents had to impress upon their kids to be dressed nicely, etc because of the judgments & danger based on skin color. This is so disturbing.
I really hope justice is served. The sad thing is justice won't bring back this kid. Justice won't change the fact the stereotypes exist
The story is tragic, and my heart goes out to his family. And it's awful that parents still need to have the talk with their sons. I never realized this until I worked in a mostly African American neighborhood. I remember one woman went ballistic when her nephew came out at night with no ID. She saw I looked baffled and explained later, made me realize what an easy, sheltered life I led in comparison.
My nephew is of. Mixed race, and I hate to think people will be afraid of him one day just because of his skin color.

However, maybe we should be a little more cautious about how we let our kids leave the house. Google "hooded gunman". Apparently it's almost a "uniform"
My 2 year old wears hoodies and I really hope they are out of style by the time he is a teenager.
Ummm...I'm wearing a hoodie today because I was cold this morning. Does that make me look gangster? No. it's all just another game. And this is why his defense will work.

They say he was fighting with Zimmerman (after being followed by him). Zimmerman got out of his car and went after this boy after being told NOT to. He initiated the fight and then claims self defense. How do you start a fight and then claim self defense?
He shot this child. I don't care if Trayvon was a punk, a bad student, a typical teenager, a dirtbag or whatever else.. he was SOMEBODY'S CHILD. He was unarmed. He was followed because he 'looked suspicious'. He was messed with because he didn't fit George Zimmerman's view of what a 'good kid' should look like. And ultimately he was shot and KILLED because George Zimmerman wanted to play cop.
Zimmerman should be in jail.

This whole situation is tragic and I don't think we'll ever know what truly happened.
What I do know is that a mother of two young black boys, this scares me. I always knew we'd have to have conversations with the boys when they are older about what to do when you're stopped by the police or being followed in a store, but it never dawned on me that it's a conversation that I may have about walking in your (or a family member's) neighborhood.

Depends on how lunatics like Zimmerman would see you, not how I do. Because you are female I'm guessing he wouldn't see you as a threat.
