Traveling without your Little One...
Has anyone traveled without their young child? Our child is 15 months. She is used to being with her grandparents on work days and knows them well. Would you leave her for 4 nights to go to Florida?
What if it was her other set of grandparents that she doesn't see as often?
I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Re: Traveling without your Little One...
I left my daughter with my parents when she was 4months. Right befire we found out we were pregnant we booked a trip to Jamaica but I was so sick I couldn't fly so we postponed the trip til after she was born or we'd lose the money, I wasn't worried about leaving her with my parents at all. I knew she was in good hands. But I honestly did feel so guilty. I remember throwing up when I was packing all of her things. I cried the whole way to the airport. But once we were on the plane, it was nice knowing we had a little private time and Werner it was the last trip we'd take the two of us for a while. When we got home, I couldn't get I to my parents house fast enough and just cried holding her I was so happy. The anticipation of leaving her was worse then actually being away.

Re: Traveling without your Little One...
Just saw your other question, I would have never left her with my in laws. We didn't see them to often and she would scream whenever they came over.

Ds was 5 months old and we left him for 3 nights with my mom to spend at my grandfathers condo in Florida. Her idea totally.

I have not traveled without my dd and would not feel comfortable leaving her overnight yet--she is 16 months old. If I were to travel I would never leave her with my In laws--she hardly knows them--it would be a disaster--If I traveled I would leave dd with my parents or my sister and brother in law--no one else.

Sorry didn't read the whole post. He sees my mom multiple times a week. He knows grandma very well. He has also been STTN since right before that. I would not leave him with my mother in law, he hasn't met her yet! (Ds is now 8 months.)

I left DD with in-laws at 15 months and she was fine. She only sees them about twice a month. Go and have fun!
ETA: It was for 2 nights, almost 3 days

Traveling without your Little One...
If I had someone to watch my 14 month old DS, I'd definitely take them up on the offer. Both my sister and brother have gone away without their DC and I'm so jealous!

My MiL told us that it's selfish for us to go away and that the baby will think I'm abandoning her when she wakes up three days into my trip and realizes mommy still isn't there. I'm so upset. I didn't feel like it was wrong until she said that.

I wouldn't be able to do 5 days yet...my kids are 8, 6, 2. We've only gone to weddings for 1 night at this point. I would consider 2-3 in the near future but no one seems too eager to watch them!

we have traveled without our kids and left them with my mom...who watches them during the work day already. i think as long as your parents are on board, go for it! I would not have left them with my in-laws (or any other relative) that they do not know well/see often

Re: Traveling without your Little One...
I say go and enjoy! We weren't able to do more then a night or two when our kids were babies because no one would take them for any longer then that. Even now they are 5 and 8 and the longest we've been away is 4 nights. Be grateful that someone you trust is offering to do thus for you. You may feel bad at first, but don't. Your marriage is just as important, maybe even more so, as being a good parent.

Traveling without your Little One...
We left my DD overnight with my folks a few times before she was a year old with no issue. I would not have left her with my inlaws though, even when we went out to visit them in CA and they offered to watch her so we could go to dinner, we said no. She was not used to them and screamed anytime my mother-in-law picked her up. Now at 2.5 though, I'd probably at least consider leaving her with the in-laws. Still on the fence though...:)

Oh please. Kids are way more resilient than we give them credit for. Out of curiosity, is she the one that would be watching the baby? I'm wondering if she's trying to get out of it now and this is her way of doing it?

That is the most ridiculous thing I've even heard. The baby will have no such thoughts.

Traveling without your Little One...
We went on a cruise when my son was 8 months old and my parents watched him. I felt guilty at times but also had a great time. I would only be comfortable leaving him with someone he knows.
I am actually traveling for work this weekend. He was suppose to come with me (and my husband so he would have him when I was busy) but unfortunately my husband now is not able to come so he is staying with my sister. He already is saying can I go to Aunt Laurens now! (He is almost 2 1/2)

Re: Traveling without your Little One...
Personally, I've never done it so I know I can't give real advice. I feel like it was more MY issue though than DD's. lmao. I breastfed up until she was 13 months (and was never able to pump) so it wasn't an option at that point anyhow and then even after I just couldn't bare it. Even just going to the store without her felt wrong - like I left the house without my purse or bra. So I couldn't have done a week away. However, she's 4 now and I'm due with #2 in a few months and I seriously am considering going away for a weekend with just my husband and leaving her with grandma. Honestly, I think as long as your child's comfortable with who she'll be staying with then it's fine. Mom's do need breaks! It's not like you're leaving her for an entire summer. I think the only way I would not do it is if the kiddo has severe attachment issues and you know it would be way too hard for them. Or if (like me) YOU have attachment issues and it would be way to hard for YOU. haha! Otherwise, enjoy yourself and check in every day. Give grandma a little calendar they can cross off together for counting down when mommy's back (if she's old enough for that. I forget what age you said).

Re: Traveling without your Little One...
We have left DS twice for trips. First trip was two nights while we went out to Greenport for our anniversary when DS was 2 Second time , DH and I went to Mexico for 4 nights when DS was almost 3 I was upset that time.. leaving him, especially flying without him etc. DS could have cared less. Had a great time with my parents who spoiled him rotten and it was life changing to have 4 days together as a couple... just me and DH. I always said I will not be the kind of parent who doesnt vacation with just my husband. My parents vacationed together as a couple without us kids all the time. It's good for your marriage!! I would also take advantage of just having one child and vacation now. I'm sorry we didnt get to go away again as a couple before my DD gets here in October!

Re: Traveling without your Little One...
We went to the Bahamas for 4 nights when DD1 was about 18 months. My parents stayed with her. At the time MIL was watching her 3 days a week while DH and I worked, but we wouldn't have had her do overnights. She had a blast with my parents, didn't have any effect on her. She has no recollection of it, lol. Go!!

Your MIL sounds like a lovely person We went away for 3 days when DS was about 15 months and he was just fine. He was with people he trusted and knew (daycare during the day, grandparents at night) and we called to check on him every day. I think if you have people watching her that she knows, and that will reassure her that you're only away and most certainly coming back, she'll be just fine. Have you gone away overnight without her yet?
maybe try doing one or 2 of those before doing 5 days all at once. That way she'll see that even overnight, mom and dad will come back.
It's all up to how comfortable YOU are with being away from her. Often its the parents who are more bothered by it, not the children

Traveling without your Little One...
we have left our kids a bunch of times. Some 1 nights, some 2, in Nov it will be for 4 days. I see nothing wrong with it as long as someone is willing to take them. I love my time. I appreciate it all the time. They stay with either my parents or my in-laws. If my sisters had the time I would let them stay there too. My kids don't even relaize i'm gone lol

The most we have left DS was overnight, we did a weekend trip. I don't know if I would be comfortable leaving our kids for a 5 day trip.
