Traveling w Toddlers

So I initially booked a cruise w RC, we cruised w them many many times- Very pleased (prior to age 3)

My son is 3 and we stared potty training, i was reading the guidelines and they say that in the camps and pools the kids have to be completely potty trained, (camp is age 3-5) no pulls ups, no accidents and have to be able to do everything in the bathroom alone.

My opinion, for age 3 that is a lot to ask for- they are still babies!

Anyway, i have until sept to cancel- i am on the fence. I am looking for other ideas for my 3 year old- my hubby liked the camp idea bc we got a break (adult time) and he had a blast at the camp w other kids and activities

Unfortunately I think that is failry common as I ran into the same thing with a hotel in the Poconos we are staying at memorial day weekend...age 3 and must potty trained to attend camp.
If you want something where you can send the kids to "camp" you will likely be limited. I would check out Carnival cruises and possibly Norwegian...I believe they both have different camp requirements

I am not upset about the potty training- He very well maybe potty trained. I just dont think at age 3 he will be able to wipe, pull pants etc up and down and wash hands unassisted

I think he should be ok as long as he's potty trained.

My son couldn't wipe at 3 (but, he didn't really go number 2 at new places) He could pull up his pants and wash his hands. Especially in a kids club where they tend to have low sinks.

If you're starting now, he should be fine by September. And from what I've heard at least from Disney cruises (and I'd imagine they'd be cinsistent with rc), should your child have an accident in the club, they just call you to come and change them/clean them up. Only repetitive accidents become a problem. It's amazing once they get potty training, they've got it. September is light years away.

And, lol, my dd is 4, trained since 2.5, and I really dont think she properly wipes, washes her hands, etc. when I'm not there. God knows how unclean our toddlers/preschoolers are... but they all make it through...!

I agree with this. By September, your DS will be 3.5 and should have potty training down (if you're starting now). My son trained in January and has only had maybe 5 accidents and 2-3 of those were during naptime at daycare.

As I said before, I'd get daycare on board with training him. I really think peer pressure encouraged my DS to potty train quickly. Plus, they have years of experience with a variety of kids.

ETA: my son still asks for help when wiping (usually). When he does it independently, he does an okay, but not great job. I just always make sure I check him when he gets home from daycare. If he looks a little red, I put some desitin on him at night (he still wears a diaper then).

Wiping can be taught. DS had to wipe by preschool (just before he turned 3) and pull up pants independently. It was fine. Yes... he left marks at times... but that's no big deal.

oh how I wish this was true DS is 3 and we have been tranining him for a over a year now and we are still having accidents constantly. Actually this week I feel like he is completely regressing again Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I will say though he does when he wants to go pee by himself and pull his pants up. He will go poop by himself but he will not be able to wipe himself at all. By my DD who trained young I wiped for a while and while she can do it herself she will still call me in at the age of 6Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I wouldn't cancel. Just have him go before you drop him off. He should be good for the 2 hrs or so you would need for some alone time. Don't sweat it!

I wouldn't cancel. He may be trained by then. But RC is very strict about it. They were kicking people out of the pools and fixers to stick to the very tiny baby pool.

And my kids are all about doing everything themselves at 3/4. So I wouldn't worry. No put on tight clothes with buttons and a belt. Pull on and off and easy tee shirts.
