Traveling Question

We're going on vacation in a few weeks - I'd like to bring our stroller that we have (UppaBaby Cruz) and get it checked at the gate to use at our final destination. I keep reading stories about strollers being damaged --- anything I can do to prevent this? Has anyone encountered this? Is it worth buying a bag for it?

Second question - car seats. We're getting a rental when we get there. Do you guys normally bring car seat or rent it? DS will be in convertible car seat by the time we go on our trip.

Re: Traveling Question

We gate checked a bunch of times & never had a problem.

We pretty much only fly jetblue though!

I know with the g-luxe if you buy the travel bag uppa baby will guarantee that it doesn't get damaged (and if it does they fix/replace). Maybe see if they do that for the Cruz.

ETA they do Travel bag

Traveling Question

We flew with our (then) 6mo at Christmas and gate checked our stroller with no issue. We did put it in a travel bag. We did not need a car seat at that time because we were going to visit my parents who bought a car seat for their house.

We are going on vacation mid April with our then almost 10mo DS. We will be bringing and gate checking both the stroller and a convertible car seat. We purchased a cheapie convertible seat (Cosco Scenera Next) that we will only be use for traveling so we don't have to schlep around either of our bigger heavier Britax seats. Plus I won't care if anything happens to that car seat because its so cheap. We will put it in a travel bag as well to help protect it.

Traveling Question

I travel a lot and I always gate check an umbrella stroller, never had an issue. I never bring a carseat and always rent. You get it free with hertz if you use AAA. Again never had an issue.

ETA: just FYI.. I've been on several airlines, including splitting our trip on two carriers. Never an issue with gate check stroller. I however never understood the need to bring a car seat and lug that around. Seems like such a hassle. But I've only used Hertz so maybe that's why I've never seen an issue renting? They've always been clean and fit her fine.

Re: Traveling Question

We travelled to PR and gate checked her stroller. Didn't get damaged.
We didn't bring her car seat though, the car rental place provided one.

Re: Traveling Question

my stuff gets really dirty and scratched when gate checked. i use bags (the cheap red one they sell on amazon) and that has helped. Now the bag has holes and dirt on it but the stroller is in better condition.

Traveling Question

I recently flew Jet Blue and I used the inexpensive red travel bags from
Buybuybaby for my gate checked stroller and car seat and I am very glad I did because they got dirty and torn in a few places. I bring my car seat- there is no guarantee rental car seats will be clean or in good condition.

It's not recommended to use a rental car seat because you don't know the history, and you don't know if it's in proper working order.

It's also not recommended to gate check your car seat because it can be damaged. If you've seen the way they toss luggage around you probably would not want them touching your car seat anyway. they just do not care!!
