Traveling question - cold to hot
Humor me… When you're traveling from cold winter to sunny warm weather .. Do you bring your coat? For some reason, I can't think of what I've done in the past… But I would hate to board a plane with a coat and UGGs on
What do you normally do?
I think last time I did this, I just roughed it without a coat
Stupid question I know.

Traveling question - cold to hot
No big bulky coat for me, I usually have a big scarf and I have a sweater coat which works great.

This is what I do too. I will say that we came back from Puerto Rico last Monday night when it was 15 degrees with 45 mph winds at JFK and it was really cold. I wished I had shoved a hat and gloves in my bag since those wouldn't have taken up much room, though I still wouldn't have brought the coat (it was in the car, so once I was in the car, it was fine).

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
I went from cold (NY) to colder (AK) and didn't bring a coat. I just wore one of my daughters coats when I got there. I did wear a long sweater over my regular top. I've brought one in the past and hated carrying it. Because I never wore it in the airport. I would not bring one if I was going to a warmer place.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
I bring my thin, but very warm winter coat. One night in Disney I wish I would have brought it to the parks, because it was cold at one of the Firework shows.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
i went to dubi/bali/ singapore last month and it was about 90 degrees. i boarded the plane with boots and my huge coat. i have a small travel bag that has a compartment on the bottom for shoes that i boarded the plane with. i just switched shoes when i landed in dubai. my coat is HUGE which was a pain in the butt during flights. When I landed @ jfk i was so grateful i had my coat because it was FREEZING!
ETA- i also went to china which was about 50 degrees. thats the ONLY reason why I wore/brought my riding boots. I was going to do a ton of walking and I pack light so I needed a universal shoe for day/night.
Just wear your bulkiest shoe , which I assume would be sneakers. If you have a ride scheduled to pick you up from the airport on your way back, go with the lightest coat u have and tuck in a scarf. If you're taking a cab, bring a coat! those lines can get long.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
I bring my coat. I will never forget when we went to disney back in the 1980s and it was 19 degrees out. We were so thankful for our winter coats. Disney was charging an arm and a leg for winter clothing then.

Traveling question - cold to hot
I always bring my coat and pack summer gear in my carry on. I just change in the bathroom on the.plane. I've had numerous people tell me it's a smart idea.

Traveling question - cold to hot
I just did this-- went to Florida and was supposed to fly home on Sunday, was delayed due to the storm until Monday. I wore my coat and canvas slip ons (with no socks). Stored my coat in the overhead bin on the flight. DH kept telling me to leave it and just wear a sweatshirt. Well, I'm glad I had my coat, because I was stuck in that disaster at LGA on Monday. I waited outside FREEZING for 2.5 hours for a cab. I literally could not feel my toes- and I was so glad I had my coat! I was actually wishing for my hat/scarf/gloves & of course dreaming of my Uggs.

No. Too annoying. I just freeze my butt off when we return and we're leaving the airport.
Jfk terminal 5 has a long term coat check though.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
I wear a light jacket (like those very light from uniqlo) layered with a light sweater and a sleeveless top. For shoes I wear flats. No boots or socks. I need to wear something thicker or warmer than a sweater because I get cold in the airplane.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
For trips pre cruise I wear tee shirt, exercise/yoga type pants or if you are more comfortable jeans. I wear a fleece type jacket that I can tie around my waist or stuff in a carryon. I wear slip ons, like ballet flats, or sometimes flip flops if it isn't too cold in NY. You can easily throw a pair of capris or shorts in your bag. You don't want to be dressed too little or you will be cold for part of the flight. A tee or tank and exercise type pants will be ok until you can get into your hotel to change.
Where are you going? Places like Florida you might want your light winter coat. Family recently was in Miami pre cruise and it was chilly (upper 60s). We were in WDW on year and it was 30 at night but 65-80 during the day.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
The last few times i've left the coat and boots home and went in sneakers and a sweatshirt. I just try to not be outside long when going to the airport and suck it up.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
Yes, I bring a coat because otherwise you might be in a t-shirt returning to NY in 20 degrees and snow! I wouldn't bring a big puffy coat, but something that wouldn't be terribly annoying just to carry from the airport to the hotel at your destination.
When I was younger, my sister and I took a cruise in the winter. Our parents picked us up from the airport and brought us our winter coats. That's another option, if you're being picked up by family.

Re: Traveling question - cold to hot
I wore a lighter coat (leather) and a scarf when I went to Florida last year in February. I left straight from work so I needed something, but didn't want to carry something massive.
