Traveling

Are any of you holding off on planning travel due to ttc? I have heard mixed things about flying in the first trimester so I get nervous. I also don't know how long it will take to get pregnant so I don't know if I should just plan a trip. My cousin is getting married in Jamaica so I am waiting as long as I can to book my trip.

Re: Traveling

I'm going to be flying during my first trimester. My OB said it was fine. It just may be uncomfortable for me due to nausea and fatigue.

I booked my trip before I was pregnant because I didn't want to be put my life on hold because I didn't know when I would conceive.

Re: Traveling

I booked a trip to Jamaica for September, so no, not holding off on any travel plans due to TTC. We've been TTC for a year now, so who knows when I'll be PG. I can't put my life on hold. The only time I wouldn't travel is close to the end just in case.

That's good to hear. I'd like to take a short vacation some time soon.

Re: Traveling

This is just my exp - I know everyone has a different opinion but. .

I travel for work all the time so have/had no choice but to fly . I was paranoid about TTC and flying bc so many people told me it was bad but in the end just thought it's too hard to just put off life on not really fact based info. . plus I would be in the poor house bc I literally could not work.

My obgyn did say not to go through the metal detectors - I KNOW that they are probably fine but she said it's not worth it.

otherwise I heard just stay hydrated and rested. She said it's really the end of the 3rd trimester it's important to be grounded.

Re: Traveling

DH and I just got back from Spain a couple of weeks ago. At first I was hesitant to book the trip but now I am glad that I didn't. I don't see any sense in putting your entire life on hold for something that "might" be. That being said, I did not find enough information stating that it was in any way unsafe to travel unless a Dr. advised agains it.

Re: Traveling

During my first pregnancy, I went on 3 trips during my first trimester. They were all booked prior to being pregnant. I went to Costa Rica not knowing I was pregnant. Morning sickness started while I was in Miami. Then I went to the Grand Canyon puking the entire way.

I wouldn't hold off on a trip because of TTC. You never know how long it's going to take.

eta: I believe the reason why doctors tell you to avoid flying during your first trimester is because of risk of miscarriage. Flying won't increase your chances of miscarriage. If you do miscarry, you would want to be close to home. That is what I was told.
