Travel 2nd trimester

Question - has anyone been told not to travel somewhere like the Carribbean during 2nd tri...like around 22-29 weeks? One of my friends warned me of this bc the hospitals down there don't have good neonatal units and if godforbid something happened they wouldn't be able to save the baby. Where as here we are so advanced and many babies can be saved it born early and we have level 2 and 3 neonatal units near us. I don't know I guess this freaks me out a bit. So I an considering no trip Or something prior to 20 weeks bc if something were to happen before 20 weeks not much they can do anyway. I cannot go in 3rd tri bc my schedule is too hectic.

Anyway I know I sound paranoid but it just took me forever to get pregnant and the last thing I need is to be in some dingy hospital somewhere going thru something scary. I need to ask my dr. bout his buy just curious if anyone heard something similar?

You can def travel then but it's all up to what your comfortable with. I mean, I would def try to go somewhere where the hospitals may be better just in case (like dont go anywhere near Mexico lol). I went on a cruise at 23 weeks and it was wonderful and I would do it again pregnant in a heartbeat!

Re: Travel 2nd trimester

I booked two vacations already this year before I was pregnant, and both I will be traveling via car not plane so I wasn't worried about how pregnant I'd be when we go.....but luckily it works out that the first trip (to Cape Cod) I will be around 19 weeks and the 2nd (to Virginia) when I'm 24 weeks. I will be the one driving since I'm taking my car with my sister, her kids and my mom (girls trip!)...it will be fun but that drive is going to SUCK, I hope what they say about having more energy in the 2nd trimester is true!! lol

If I were you I'd play it safe and pick a location where you know you'll have good care, were you thinking of a cruise, or flying?

Re: Travel 2nd trimester

I was told by my OB that they really dont want me to go outside the US but i had a trip planned the 2 weeks after I found out I was pregnant and i had to cancell that so this was my last chance to go away before LO comes along. I will be 28 weeks when I go to Bahamas. I asked again and they said it was ok. I think it really depends on how your pregnancy is going. and how conservative your OB practice is

Thx I am gonna ask the OB before I book anything. I may just try to go before the 2nd tri to be safe. We have a few islands in mind. Either Barbados or Turks…still contemplating and looking at prices!
