Transitioning to Milk & Sippy and More ???'s

DD just turned 1 year old and I'm going to start transitioning her to whole milk. I plan on starting with a mix/formula 1/4, 1/2 then whole in weekly incriments.

She is still on the bottle. She drinks water from her sippy tho. So, should I get her on 100% whole milk first and then convert her to the sippy or start the transition of both at the same time???

She is still getting 24 oz a day (4 -6 oz bottle) so I should probably cut one out about now right?

And will the milk make her constipated?

TIA!

Transitioning to Milk & Sippy and More ???'s

Personally - I don't see the big deal if you continue the bottle past a year. I'm currently in the middle of transitioning db from breast milk to whole milk during the day. I am keeping the bottle for now. I see now that so many people are big into taking the bottle away right at a year and I'm just not into it. Db is already going through a big change going from BM or formula to whole milk and I would guess a lot of times it is made worse by taking away the bottle at the same time. That's just my two cents.

Juliet has been doing whole milk for about a week now and she's doing well - no constipation thus far.

We transitioned to milk first (only took us a few days) and then started with the sippys. We just did one sippy a day at first and after a few weeks added another. The night bottle took us the longest to switch. I think DS was 15 or 16 months by then.

Transitioning to Milk & Sippy and More ???'s

For DS I transitioned him to whole milk first and kept the bottles. I tried transitioning to a sippy cup right after he turned one but he really wasn't ready, it was a mess. He's 13 months now and I'm going to wait until he's 14 months to try it again. I don't think there really needs to be a rush. I say go by her cues - try the sippy and see if she's ready to transition. But I wouldn't force it if she's not ready yet.

DS definitely got constipated from switching over. It took a few weeks for that to stop. I gave him plums whenever he needed some help to move things along. GL!

Just transitioned DD to whole milk. TOTALLY constipated her. Chat Icon She's in pain. Do the transition as gradual as you can.

She's a yr old, we're going to start trying to transition to sippy within the next week or two.

Transitioning to Milk & Sippy and More ???'s

When transitioning to milk i did 1 oz a milk per day for 24 days until they bottles were full milk...so for day one you had 1 oz of milk with 5 oz formula then then rest all formula and so one...thats how my ped recommended to do it and i had no problems

The sippy cup i waited until he was fully on milk then started getting him to use it

I started transitioning at 11 months... Pretty much did your schedule no problem. Dd still takes milk in the bottle. I've read that doing both transition to milk and sippy at same time could end up being too much change for LO all at once. I cut down to 3 bottles around 10 months... Dd takes in about 6oz each time so 18oz total daily give or take. I just went to ped today and was told 16oz a day of whole milk is perfectly fine. And some kids can take less if they are more of a cheese and yogurt type kid.

Milk does not make my dd constipated. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen much change in that area. Maybe bc I did a slow transition to milk... Idk

Re: Transitioning to Milk & Sippy and More ???'s

we switched to whole milk in bottles over the course of just like 3 days and my kids took it like champs. Since switching to straw cups (which they used since 6 months but only for water), my DD is okayyyy with milk, but DS is all nope nope nope. He gets most of his calcium from cheese, yogurt and other foods and if he has a few sips, twice a day, that is a lot.

I think its easier to switch to milk then the cup since that way you would at least be able to identify if there was any issue with them drinking the milk itself.
