Transferring utilities
Where do I start? When should I do this? We plan on moving in Labor Day weekend?

Re: Transferring utilities
You can call the utility companies and tell them to do the cut off labor day so you would be billed up to then.... and have the new owners/tenant request adding their names for that day. Easier than you think

Re: Transferring utilities
If the old owners have moved out already, you should do the switch NOW. Otherwise the old owners will be billed for time they are not in the house, and they could fight the bill, which could cause confusion to the utility company. Electric, Water, Gas (if you have it), phone all should be switched now.
We had the utilities in our names for 3 months before we actually moved in.
