Transfer Cancelled -So upset-UPDATE 12/13

Hi ladies...i want to thank each and everyone of you for all your advice. i went today for my transfer and we waited for an hour before being brought into the Dr's office. There were tissues on the desk and i had a gut feeling something was wrong. The dr came in and said that we had & perfect quality emroyos thhat made it to blast but there was an infection in the sperm. this is rare and he hasnt seen this in 5 yrs. he said they will waita week to see if it clears and if not they need to be discarded. thye cant risk transferring hem. im sooo upset and confused. i was in such shock i couldnt even think of questions to ask. i called when i got home and waiting fof a call back. The reccomended he see Dr Girardi. I dont even know the exact name of the bacteria. hes been taking the doxyclycine but its the one bacteria is doesnt kill. sorry for this being so long. i am soo confused. thanks for listening. i will keep you updated, Has anyone ever heard of somehing like his before?...

also, i have to go through my bag iof meds and am more than happy to give away everything i have. i know i def have follitsm, PIO.

UPDATE: 12/13
Sorry i havent logged on in a few days still trying make ense of all this. Dh has an appt with a urologist tom to see what is going on. it was confirmed all the embryos were infected i had 7 that made it to blast. the crazy part is this is soemthing he must have just come down with bc the sample they froze was fine and that was given jsut two weeks before. they dont culture the samples given on days of ER bc there isnt enough time. they culture the one to freeze and then we are given antiobiotics. ughhso fustrating...
i actually got AF today so now i dont know what to do. i left a vm with the nurse bc i dont know if i have to wait a full cycle if i cant start soon.

I am so sorry that this happened. Devasting to think you are going in for transfer and then have hear this horrible news.
So there wasn't any sign of infection until this morning on day 5?
I hope Dr. has some further insight to provide. If they wait another week, and the infection is gone, can they freeze?

idk...he said this wasnt something he wanted to tell me on the phone. now that we are home we both have so many questions, they are freezing them all for a week but im assuming they are all infected. my husband cant understand either bc he said when they wash the sperm couldnt they see somwething wrong. idk waiting for his phone call back.
i still cnat believe this all happened. he told me to stop all meds and pio shots so to doesnt look good.

OMG I'm so sorry this happened to you. I never made it to transfer either but for totally different reasons, but I can totally relate to your frustration.....This is really tough.

ive already called twice i dont want to be a pain but have so many questions.
i just dont get how they wouldnt have seent his with his fresh sample and could have used the frozen. idk....
im also concerened about the money issue. we went through insurance as i have a 30k lifetime max. i hope there is some left and not that the next time has to come out of pocket.

How horrible( I would think that they test the sperm CAREFULLY before they ICSI. I am so sorry you are going thru this, and i hope they do not hold you financially repsponsible for the entire cost. Please keep us updated!

i was going to call the financial administrator tomorrow and see what happpens now. due to the fact this wasnt completed.
the dr did call me back and he basically told me they are calling an infectious disease specialist to come in and look at the emryos to determine if they are salvagible. jjust kills me that they are all infected and there is notnhing to freeze to even do a FET. i would have to go through all this again. Im not even sure how long in btw i would have to wait.

My IVF cycle failed and didn't have any frozen embryos. I was told I had to wait one cycle. I assume it would be the same for you. I can't believe this happened.

When I did a fresh cycle last April I could not go ahead with a transfer. I had to pay for everything out of pocket, and everything including doctors bill and hospital bill upfront @ the start of the cycle. Since I did not go through with a transfer, both the hospital and doctor refunded me the cost of the transfer, which was quite a lot of $. I know its probably the last thing you want to deal with right now but I would definitly insist on finding out what is being billed to insurance.

i had a ivf unable to trasfer for different reasons and its just plain sucks....i am so sorry!!!

i hope they fig outwhat is going on with dh and its easily fixed and you dont have to pay for the full thing!!!

im so sorry. ive never heard of this before. from the measures your doctor is taking it sounds like its pretty uncommon.

i dont think you will have any problem insurance wise with a $30k lifetime max. that is what i have an i completed my IVF and still have about 2/3rds left. Considering that you only got to ER and fert, I doubt you significantly dented the max. Remember that the settled insurance company fees for IVF are WAYY lower than what you would pay out of pocket. I think everything in my cycle combined (besides meds) came out to less than $10k. from what i was told $30k should be enough for a few fresh cycles.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts and hugs, I'm beside myself eso since they were such good quality and i had 7 great ones. tha was my next question for ppl who had covergage how much was one froze cycle?
I would love tosee another dr, but braverman;s hours are tough for me. i work from 8-5 in downtown nyc. it would be too hard.

ps..if anyone is intertested in meds and needles let me know i have plenty.

So sorry you are dealing with this.

But maybe you don't want to give all your meds away so soon? Check their expiration dates. If you need to do a new cycle you might be able to use them.

This sounds SO incredibly frustrating I'm so sorry!!

I know what it's like to be a rare case... I had complications in my pregnancy that some drs haven't seen in their whole careers- I know that's VERY different, but still, it's so frustrating when something that hardly EVER happens, happens to you!
