Toys and pieces...ahhh
Am I the only one that goes nuts with ALL the friggin pieces these toys come with? It's like I'm always missing something and can't rest until I find it. Under the wall unit, under the couch, stuck in some other toy, omg!
Maybe it's just that I'm majorly type A

I keep all of dds toys together but then again I don't keep a lot of toys for her..she has a tiny toy box in her room, one drawer in her closet, and a rack for her puzzles-that's it

Re: Toys and pieces...ahhh
I can't stand all the pieces. My ds1 got a work bench and it came with nuts and bolts. Then another melissa and doug building set came with some bolts I ended up just throwing them all in the same bucket. Same with cars - we have million cars from a bunch of different sets. I have given up the fight. If something goes missing - oh well it will be found eventually.

I toss a lot of the stuff with small pieces unless kids keep them organized.

Wait until she gets older. And if you have more kids. It grows!!!!!!
I had a basket for DD1. Now it's exploded. And as they get older they get more and smaller pieces.
I'm currently missing (and losing sleep over) a missing fork from her kitchen!

Haha, I was going to say the same thing. We started out small too. Then the holidays come, birthday, hand me downs, etc etc. things multiply and before you know it, it's taken over your house.
And now I can't even put away the younger toys bc baby 2 will be here in 3 weeks. So I have toys for dd who is about to be 2 and all the stuff she's outgrown.
I'm going to throw one helll of a garage sale once we are done having kids. It's insane the amount of toys, books, clothes, gear that I have.

Re: Toys and pieces...ahhh
I used to obsess over the lost pieces. I would literally sit and count lego pieces (hundreds) every single night to make sure I wasn't missing any under the couch or something. It started making me crazy how neurotic I was being. I got rid of a few toys with pieces that always ended up somewhere else. I threw all the lego sets together in one large rubbermaid bin and don't count them anymore. I try to have her clean up after every game/puzzle/event so that the pieces don't get piled up others. It has been soooo much better since.

Toys and pieces...ahhh
I could have written this post word for word. All the pieces drive me NUTS. I am going to look into getting a toy organizer with bins. Hoping that will help. But DS still loves to empty everything and throw things all over the floor. Its an uphill battle.

Re: Toys and pieces...ahhh
It is maddening. I used to try to keep it all together, but I've given up. Just GIVEN UP. It's gotten so bad that short of throwing everything out and starting over, I feel like it is unfixable now. Her play room is just...beyond. Like the thought of trying to organize it now, just gives me anxiety. It's daunting.
And it doesn't help that she loves to mix and match all her stuff. Yesterday she was using one of her lego pieces as a bed for one of her my little pony figures from a busy book!
So it's hopeless.
It's gotten to the point where I was shopping for bday gifts for her yesterday and I passed over a few things that she'd probably love but that just had too many TINY TINY pieces.

Re: Toys and pieces...ahhh
Yes! I get lots of bins and we keep it in the basement. Legos in a bin, puzzles in ziplocks, small game pieces in ziplocks, marbles in ziplocks. They LOVE cars so I have a kids "truck/car" themed garbage can all the cars get kept in. It was given as a gift and never used as a garbage bin. It's too nice. LOL! Also stuffed animals are put in the basement in personalized laundry baskets that were given as gifts. After a while stuffed animals get tossed. Only a few they keep.
My rule is if they don't clean it up it's mine. I have a high shelf of games they didn't clean up. Only 2 games on there now, but it's really games they hardly play or cared for. They can get them back when they clean up. We keep all games in cabinets. Since the boys are getting older (6 and almost 4) the majority of their stuff is all in the basement. So nice to clean out the den! LOL!
We also have a ton of art bins. Those lunch plastic containers are great to hold crayons and markers. Big bins hold the stickers, yarn, cotton balls, etc. They are also divided by bags. I keep the glue and scissors in my own drawer bc they don't know how to use a small amount of glue. Ugh! When we lose pieces of an inexpensive toy or game or it's been a while since they've played they get tossed or given away to schools or charities. I do big clean ups before birthdays and the holiday.

Its a never ending battle. I keep a basket and only have a certain number of toys allowed at one time before I put them away for storage because he hasnt played with them in a while. Oh and once he gets a new toy one goes away in storage.

no, not just you. I can't even go to bed without counting puzzle pieces I just went bananas on DD1 because when she was done with those damn Sofia the First dolls, she didn't put them back in their bucket... we've been over this 90 times. the stupid little fan and pocketbook and squirrel are allllllllways missing, and she has a hissyfit if she can't find them

I try my best not to open anything with small pieces - Board Games, and Lego are my exceptions - but those stupid plastic toys w/ 500 parts that break in 5 minutes? The gift recepits are much appreciated and utilized on those.

I feel like you can't win. When they're little there are less pieces but when one is missing it's way more noticeable. I couldn't find ring from the fp stacker recently and it made me nuts. When they get older there are tons of small pieces but dd doesn't notice as much when one goes missing. I get very tempted to toss little things like teeny tea cups and shoes for little dolls.

Re: Toys and pieces...ahhh
I gave up on keeping it organized a looooong time ago! My girls basically own the entire girl department at toysrus there is no way I can keep all the same stuff together. I have 4 toy boxes and bins filled with stuff. Once every few months I'll go through the toy boxes and toss stuff. When something goes missing I'll look for it but if I can't find it than oh well it's lost until it's found.

When I clean up his toys at night I sort them in bins. Cars in one, Sesame Street in another, balls in another, etc. my husband just puts them all in whatever bin he can find. Sometimes when they are both in bed I re arrange them. It's sick. I also work in a nursery school type setting and I'm constantly cleaning up. I can't take mixing of play dough so they get one color and that's it.

This! This! It drives me nuts. I spend so much time educating them, discussing sorting, what were sorting for today, color type etc...... He plays with them and the bins are all mishmash end. He's like, "I just wanted to get them off the floor" I'm like, "oh yeah? I'm saving you $$$$ because I am teaching them stuff, and thanks to me they're getting a college scholarship! If we did things your way, they'll be in prison..."

It drives me nuts, too. And when we lose a piece, I spend hours looking all over the house and cars for it. DS takes his toys all over so any form of organization on my part is just futile.

Seriously. Me too. It's quite the sight watching me get down trying to look under the couch or wall unit. But oh the feeling of victory when I find it
