Re: 1st time Sushi eater here!
I'm going to have to drag DH to try a new sushi place soon. I think we'll try the one in RVC..that's close to where we live.

Re: 1st time Sushi eater here!
I would stick to some basics the first time.
California Roll: cooked crabmeat, avocado, cucumber, rice, seaweed
Spicy Tuna Roll: raw tuna, wasabi, seaweed
Spider Roll: softshell crab tempura, rice, seaweed
Boston Roll: cooked Shrimp, lettuce, rice, seaweed
Smoked Salmon Roll: smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Rice, Seaweed
Any Vegetable Roll (try avocado or cucumber) - I like these as a break from the seafood ones.

Can order these by the piece: Eel: grilled eel with sauce over rice Salmon: Salmon filet over rice Spanish Makrel: Mild White Fish over rice (not to be confused with regular makrel which tastes like bait) Tuna: Tuna over rice

Anyone have any other good sushi places they recommend??

When I lived on LI, my favorite was Yamaguchi in Port Washington. I have a few in NYC that I love.

My favorite too! They can make a lit of 'spicy' rolls: crab, salmon, tuna, etc. All very good.
I also like shrimp & avocado or shrimp tempura with avocado.

There's a little place in West Hempstead on Hempstead Turnpike called Sushi Palace. I've been going there for years.
Anyone have any other good sushi places they recommend??

  Tai Show in Massapequa
If you go there you have to try the Wayne Roll...sooo good. I like Dragon Rolls too... Eel is very meaty tasting. I have to be in the mood for it though.

  Depends on where you are:
Downtown: Kokura Japanese Restaurant 19 S William St New York, NY 10004-2412 (this is my favorite - great price AWESOME sushi)
Midtown: Mishima Restaurant 164 Lexington Avenue (little pricy, but good)
Soho: Nobu 105 Hudson St (very pricy but excellent)
ETA: I have only worked downtown and midtown so I really don't know of any great ones uptown. I have been to a few uptown, but nothing to write home about. I think Nobu has another location near 57th Street I think.

You're welcome. Seriously, Kokura is amazing. Worth the subway trip from anywhere. Their spicy tuna crunch rolls we the best I have EVER had - including at Nobu.

Re: 1st time Sushi eater here!
I just tried sushi for the first time a few weeks ago. We went to Nagahama which is right by us in Long Beach. I had the Crunchy Alaskan King Crab roll...it was sooooooooooo good. I would also def. recommend that you get the roll inside out (with the rice on the outside).
