Tornado warning alert on my phone
Scared the hell out of me just now. It was long beeps like the emergency alert system and there was a big red triangle with an exclamation.
That's never happened before. Be aware of your surroundings everyone!!

AT 134 PM EDT... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO INDICATE A TORNADO. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR SALTAIRE... OR NEAR ROBERT MOSES STATE PARK... MOVING NORTH AT 25 MPH.

Verizon set this up recectly, after the first time (today), it will ask if you want this in the future.
I think its awesome as they technically k now where we are - if you use location based services

Just spoke to them and lost reception again but at least I got to tell them, they didn't know. It's a downpour here.
I have a wedding in an outdoor tent to go to in a few hours. I feel SO bad for them!!

Yeah my DH's phone started beeping like that- scared the SHIT out of me.
Mine didn't ring- but the alert was there.
I right away turned on the weather channel, but they didn't mention a tornado warning at all on News 12 Traffic and Weather

How does Verizon decide who gets an alert? Is it by the GPS location of your phone?

I have an iphone and didnt get it either so I just checked verizons webpage and it looks like only certain brand phones get it and Iphones are not on the list..
My cousin is here watching my kids and she came in freaking about the alert..pretty cool.

thats great. iim a town over from sayville and didnt get any alerts.
sunrise hwy by under the southern state bridge is really bad. the water was up to the guard rail top.
