Toothache
What do I do if I have a toothache!? We can't have xrays, and I"m getting on and off throbs in my tooth. Not excruciating. Please tell me it's nothing and will pass...

Re: Toothache
You can have x-rays when pg. They decide if the harm to you from NOT having one is worse than the harm to the baby from having one. Remember that they'll cover your belly with a lead apron (I've heard that when you're pg they use two!).
Doctors actually recommend you going to the dentist, especially in the 2nd trimester, because tooth problems are so common when you're pregnant. The baby basically leeches calcium to get what it needs from you, and that's not good for your teeth! And if you have a cavity, or a tooth that gets infected, it can turn into something bad and it's better to find it before that happens.
FYI, though, I occasionally get throbs in my tooth that turn out to be sinus pain and not tooth pains at all... it happens to me a lot the day or two before cold symptoms pop up, or sometimes during bad allergy attacks. So maybe wait it out a couple of days.

Re: Toothache
You actually can have x-rays if they double shield you ( I unfortunately had to have them done when I cracked my tooth )
I was also told there is a certain type of novacaine that is safe for pregnant women ( epinephrine free I believe)
I should practice what I preach , but they say keeping up on dental care is very important for pregnant women...
Feel better

Don't wait too long. When a tooth starts to throb it's usually either a progressing cavity or when that is getting close to the root canal, if it gets into the root canal it will cause an infection, you will need a root canal to save the tooth. If your pain comes from inside, usually it is sensitive or aggravated by cold, air, sweets, or heat. If any of these makes your tooth hurt worse, your tooth is irritated and should see the dentist.
Hope you feel better soon!
