Re: Toddler Moms....do you keep lists of your DC's words?

Just before she turned 15 months, my mother mentioned to me that she thought Lily should have more words by that point....so I freaked out and started writing them down. (she had plenty, my mother is just crazy)
Since I realized she was fine, I stopped writing her words down. And at this point, I don't think I could write them all down if I wanted to! And she adds new words everyday (today was "eyebrow").

As long as you don't have concerns about his speech development....I wouldn't bother!

DS is 17 months and has about 500 words at this point. I don't have a list but we have a couple of 100 first word type books and he can say the words in those books and more.

Re: Toddler Moms....do you keep lists of your DC's words?

thanks other people comment to us how verbal DS is. His favorite words at the moment are hexagon and chandalear. No joke. It is really cute to hear him talk though.

As for what I do, b/c that is usually the net question we get...there are these books by a company called bright baby something like 100 first words and abcs and numbers - I read them to DS every day. We read about 10 books a day. When he was a little younger I would walk around the house pointing things out to him and tellinhg him the names of things. Just as a word of encouragement - DS did not say mama until he was 12 months old. He acually had very few words until he was about 13 months old - perhaps 5-8 words.

Re: Toddler Moms....do you keep lists of your DC's words?

When DS first started to talk, my MIL (it is always the MIL, isn't it Chat Icon ) made us nervous that he was talking "so late". DH and I counted his words and he had over 100 words. When the ped asked us how many words he had, and we told him over 100, he said that was absolutely fine. She hasn't bothered us since Chat Icon

I do (but I'm a speech therapist so I NEED to!!)

I don't write it down every single day or anything... just when I think about it, or if she says something totally out of the blue and adorable!!

Re: Toddler Moms....do you keep lists of your DC's words?

Nope, never did. And this is coming from a mom to a child with a big speech delay.

My list would have been quite easy to maintain at 18 months...he had about 2 words i think, lol...

Now he has a ton. Not sure how many, but he says everything.

It's just not my character to keep lists like that unless its asked of me by a professional...but thats me!
