Toddler HATES cutting toenails!!
DS is 33 mos and will kick, scream, cry, punch if he sees me coming towards his toes w nail clippers. He wont let me even touch his feet and now has to always wear socks! Hes fine w me cutting his finger nails though so i dont get it.
Anyone been thru this? How do i get him to not be so scared and how in the world do i cut his toenails w out a fight?

Don't have much advice on how to get him not to be afraid but I cut DS' (also 33 months) toenails while I have him in the high chair.
Has he always been afraid? I know they start getting these fears all of a sudden but then outgrow them. Hopefully it's a short phase. I would just talk about it and maybe show him how you cut your nails.

Hes always given me a hard time about it but the last few months its a nightmare. I just went into his room while he was asleep and cut them quickly. But i really need to find a way to show him its not scary and it doesnt hurt. He gets so upset and worked up. Im hoping its a phase but until he gets over it i guess ill be cutting them in his sleep w a flashlight lol!

have you tried small scissors instead?
i know DS does not like it either, but is better with the scissors than the clipper.
also, i find if i show him what i am doing and explain it as i'm doing it he gets more interested. i count down how many nails we have left and when we ar finished make a big deal of it, high five him, show him his beautiful cut nails.
he really enjoys being such a big part of it.

Mine flips out. I should actually video tape it & put it on "America's Funniest" if that's still around... Tears, screaming... you'd think I was cutting off his TOES!
NO WAY would I risk waking him up by toe nail clipping. Getting him to sleep is hard enough & he's a light sleeper.
I con him into it every now & then. His toenails aren't perfect... but he's survived to almost 2!

Yup, us too. DS is the same way. I thought it's fairly common? I don't think my DS is scared exactly, I just assumed he doesn't like how it feels.

Us to a T. DS screams & carries on so bad that he gets worked up & sweats. He is almost 3, hasn't gotten better even.though he sees his brother get his nails done.

DD is 2.5 and she is the same way....cries, screams, and kicks when DH or I cut her nails. I have no advise because we have not figured out a way to cut her nails without this happening.

yup i've been through it. He'll outgrow it. But when this would happen to us, we'd throw him in the high chair so that there was no kicking and hitting, plus easier access to hsi feet.

DS is the same. I usually let him put lotion on his legs as I clip his nails. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I just need to distract him and work as quickly as I can.

I let my husband do it, the kids both seem to go nuts when I do it, but if I send Daddy in, they love it. Try that angle.

DS doesn't like it. Most of the time his step mother does it - not sure if she knows I let her do it or just gets annoyed with me. When she doesn't do it, I let him bang a pot with wooden spoon. He has to sit on my lap so I'm facing like I'm going to cut my nails. Its isn't pretty.
