Toddler Formula.....

We didnt switch DD1 to milk till she was 2 years old. She was on Enfamil Prosobee Lipil and then we switched her to the toddler version and then made the switch to skim milk at age 2.
We were planning on doing the same with DD2.

Any other moms on here use the toddler formulas instead of transitioning to milk at 1 year??
Reasons for or against??

Re: milk spinoff...anyone not switch at 1 year??

I think the only reason I would be against NOT switching to milk is the cost.
Formula is just soooo out of control expensive that i am looking forward to not having that expense in a few months.
Not sure if there are medical reasons to stay on formula though.
If there was, then I'd stick with it.

Re: milk spinoff...anyone not switch at 1 year??

With DD#1 we didn't end up totally switching to milk til about 15/16 months. She had a problem digesting milk when we tried at 1yr so we kept her on formula a little longer then did a really gradual transition.

Turns out she is lactose intolerant so now she drinks lactaid milk. I was so happy not to be paying for formula anymore though.

Re: Toddler Formula.....

from a dietitian standpoint:

Toddler formulas are for a few reasons (IMO).

1. for those finicky kids who don't eat well. Toddler formulas provide extra iron, vit. C, D, E and other important nutrients

2. For those that beleive in DHA and want to ensure that your child gets proper amt. (if they don't have a high DHA intake - fish, supplemented milks/eggs, etc)

3. Convience. If you are going to be at the beach, hiking, traveling, etc. and you can't keep milk with you. Or to keep on the shelf in case you run out of milk

Personally, I have a 2.5 and 1 year old. I use it for them a few times a week. I want to keep DHA intake, and I use it for convience. I buy the powder enfagrow. Its great when I travel (my parents are OOS) and on vacation. Some countries we have been to have parmalat, etc. so if I can't get it I have milk with me.

HTH!

Re: Toddler Formula.....

DS was on toddler formula - Enfagrow.

Pediatrician recommended it because DS was underweight. We eventually changed to whole milk. I want to say around 16m but i can't remember exactly.
