My friend used a super nanny method.
The first time he gets up you go in and tell him "it's time for night night I love you" and put him back in bed. Every time after that you just go in and put him back in bed but say nothing! It may take a lot of times the first night but each night after got better and better she said.

We used basically the same method. Except every time we said, it's bedtime, good night and gave him a kiss. It took at least a week for him to adjust to the newfound freedom.

Re: Toddler big boy bed nightmare

We JUST went through this and after 2-3 weeks, it's almost back to normal. She'll occasionally run into our room once around 3 or 4 am, but I walk her right back and she goes right back to sleep. But the first few weeks were really rough. We just stayed consistent. I kept putting her back to bed. We wouldn't let her sleep with us like she wanted. Some nights we had to sit/lay on her floor until she passed out, but once she got used to the idea we didn't have to do that anymore.

Do you have a baby gate? Try putting that at his door so he can't get out.

We moved my DS into a big boy bed last month. He is 2 years 3 months. I did this, we have the safety gate at his bedroom door. The first 2-3 nights were rough, every 2 hours he was up crying at the door for us. Eventually, he got used to it, and he is back to sleeping from 8:00-7:00 with no issues.

My ds took about 2 weeks to adjust. He was falling asleep on the floor every night by the door and I would transfer him to the bed. 6 months later and he puts himself to sleep. I changed the door handle so he couldn't open it.
