TOB RESIDENTS - Home Improvement Program
I give it up to them they have TONS of programs, we can't do it because we did the down payment assistance program.
Must be in the house one year
income requirements
any type of repair (windows, siding, heating, plumbing, electrical, etc)

I think it's great. But I don't want to be a jerk or get flamed, but me and DH are barely making ends meet now and we are way over what the family of 2 requirements would be... how on earth do they expect someone to own a home and pay bills with those requirements... any one else feel they are unrealistic? And if not then please tell me what I am doing wrong???

I could not agree more! I don't understand how it aimed for people in our area...the family of 2...rate is insane.

I could not agree more! I don't understand how it aimed for people in our area...the family of 2...rate is insane.

I think to be nice another 5-10K on the max salary would of been a bit better for this type of program at least.
BUT to be fair we were when we purchased our house (nov 2009) we were around 65K and we qualified for the down payment assistance program just had to buy a house for 225K with a down payment of 20K. So it can happen does it suck yea big time we are struggling only because we over did it on the work on the house. I make more now though thanks to a raise and dh can work more OT now to pump up our income. Otherwise we def. would need another job to afford to be in the house along with the car loan and bills.

I give you major props for getting the house and being able to do it. You are very smart with your money and should be so proud of all you have done already. I think the limits are bogus. It's a shame because people do need some help. I feel like everyone is struggling these days at any income and I know many have taken major pay cuts. Me included. Stinks !

oh hell yea i think realistically most people don't make what we make - they make more! And i really think they should base it more on averages and i don't think the average income for two is that on LI.

I wonder why the number of mortgages matters? If I'm on the last year of my 1st mortgage, and I'm only paying $1000/month, and I took out a $20k HELOC, and I'm paying $200/month, I'm not eligible, but if I only have one mortgage for $400k and I'm paying $2,500/month, then I'm OK?

I really don't get it as well technically i think we have a lien on the house because of the TOB downpayment assistance program for 9 more years so even if we met the requirements financially i am not sure if we would be able to do it. I would call to be safe .

I'm with you Beth! If we made what their maximum is for two, then we couldn't own our house. Not to sure how they would expect two people to make that or less and own a home on Long Island at all. Very unrealistic terms!
