I used to tip the garbage men, but it's not usually the same guys on the truck, so I never know who is there...and then I read my tax bill for garbage pick up, so that stopped.

The mailman - I leave a box of homemade cookies, they are not supposed to accept cash and I take it out when my regular guy is working.

I do get a gift certificate (around $100) for my dog sitter. I don't know what i would do without her, she is available at a moments notice if I get stuck to let them out, she came over and took care of them when I was sick this year and she has become a part of our family.

I give the garbage men and mailman. The garbage men are good about taking everything and I feel bad that most of our garbage is dog poop and dirty diapers. I give the mailman $20.

Well my landscaper is my husband, so I dont really tip him. lol

The mailman- I'm giving him a Dunkin Donuts gift card.

UPS, the Mailman and the Garbage Men will be getting something from us. We had a lot going on this year and they deserve it

last year we didn't tip, this year i may give the mailman something like cookies or a bottle of something because honestly i don't have the money.

garbage men as much as i would love to give them something i am not around to personally hand it to them and i refuse to leave something out for them.

The only person that will be getting a tip from us this year is the guy that cleans our building and takes out the garbage. I live in an apartment so I dont even know who the mailman is and every wedn and sat different sanitation guys come to pick up the garbage.

We probably over-tip, but we have really great people who work with us and we want them to know we appreciate them.

Letter carrier - she's awesome. My DH has a side business that generates A LOT of mail that I have to sign for and if I'm out when she comes by the first time she'll stop by on her way back to the post office at the end of the route so I don't have to go by the post office in the am. She doesn't have to go out of her way for me and I really appreciate that she does. And since she started our route about a year ago we always get our own mail instead of having to compare with the neighbors and trade mail back and forth.

Sanitation - they take everything we put out, even things that they don't have to (like huge boxes not broken down). They are super nice and always stop to talk to my son if we are out when they come by.

UPS - Because of DH's side business we get a lot of packages as well and he's great. We've had the same delivery guy for years and we've tried many times to give him a tip and he won't take one.

Teachers - I really appreciate how hard they work with my kids. They both love school and talk about their teachers all the time and I want them to know that their efforts are noticed and appreciated.

Landscapers - we don't tip at the holidays, but we buy them lunch once a summer and give them cold drinks every week.

My DH and I will be giving to both the garbage man and the mailman. Both are great at taking care of us. Our mailman is good. He covers our boxes in the rain too. The garbage men deserve it, when we do construction or have to clean out they always take care of us!

The garbage men and newspaper delivery person. The mail person is always different.

Let's see... we just made out list.

mailman, garbage collectors, newpaper carrier, housekeeper, nanny, 2 teachers for older daughter, her school bus driver, 3 teacher's for younger daughter, occupational therapist for younger daughter, 4 after school activities teachers, occasional weekend college babysitter,
and a partridge in a peartree

some of these are money gifts, some are amex gift cards or something to that effect.

I don't tip any of them because I live in a large apartment building in Manhattan and I never see any of them. However, we do have to tip our doormen, super, porter and handyman. And it is SUPER expensive because there are a lot of them.

My garbage men are definitely getting a tip this year. I swear they stall in front on my house to give ds enough time to run to the window and wave. Both the guys are always there waving back to him. they also make sure my cans are upright with their lids on. Such a difference form my old house. The guys where I used to live were horrible.

This year

Mailman, Sanitation guys, UPS guy who delivers to our office, cleaning people there are 3 of them, My nail girl, Hair girl, I love this time of year and giving out extra for all the hardwork.

I look at it as, yeah I know they are "just doing their job" but I think it's nice to tip those who provide a service all year long. I also get that it can add up really quick and if we have a year where money is really tight, we probably won't do this. But so long as we can, it's the season of giving and it's nice to give to show appreciation if you can. We tip the mail carrier and the garbage men.

def don't give tips to anyone you mentioned...
when we buy a house and get settled, if i happen to "fall in love" with these people, then maybe i will give them a small token of my appreciation like a small box of chocolates.. or cookies..
i could never imagine giving them monetary gifts.
