TMI Question-- Ladies who delivered vaginally...

How long after did you bleed for? My bleeding had slowed down somewhat, and now the last two days has picked up again. I am about 12 days postpartum.

They said at the hospital it should be red, then pink, then white... I feel like I am going back and forth with the pinkish blood to dark red. After I use the peri-bottle, the blood is a little more red. Not sure if I can say it's BRIGHT red.

I talked to a friend who is an L&D nurse, and she said that it sounds ok... But while I know everyone is different, I thought I would ask.

5 weeks total but it tapered off a lot around 3 weeks...its normal for it to be heavy then light, then back to heavy...

It feels like such a long time but it eventually ends thank god!!

Re: TMI Question-- Ladies who delivered vaginally...

whether you delivered vaginally or via c-section does not matter when it comes to post-partum bleeding. Chat Icon

i bled for about a week, then it turned to spotting, and then the white-ish discharge... but until 6 weeks i still had days where it was heavy bleeding like my period. at 6 weeks i was done.

Re: TMI Question-- Ladies who delivered vaginally...

I think I was done around 4 weeks. However, I started taking the pill again a couple weeks ago and my system is ALL screwey now. I have been bleeding the past 3 days or so and I am not even on the week that I should be getting my period. I see my doc again around the beginning of March, but can anyone give me somewhat of an answer as well about when your system starts to get back to normal?

Randi - I'm 13 days post partum and have the same type bleeding as you. The OB told me I can expect to bleed for up to 6 weeks.

Re: TMI Question-- Ladies who delivered vaginally...

Same exact thing happened to me, it looked like it was starting to taper off and it came back again, it tapered off a lot at 3-4 weeks and fully stopped at around 5 weeks....

My kids are older but I remember bleeding for a long time -- and the more I did the worse it got. Make sure you are spending some time off your feet (easier said than done)!!!

Re: TMI Question-- Ladies who delivered vaginally...

I want to say that by 3 weeks I was done bleeding both times. I think when you nurse you actually bleed less because the BF helps to contract your uterus back down to size and I guess push all the blood out. My SIL bleed for close to 12 weeks and her OBGYN said that it was normal for it to go that long. Now, she had a really difficult labor so I am not sure if that is why she bleed that much.
Also, I am not sure if they told you but if you see clots that are larger than your hand then you need to call your dr.

hey randi!

i had a very un-traumatic delivery, EBF jonah, and still bled for 6+ weeks. it waxed and waned for me too. it was very light but still going at the time of my postpartum visit.

every woman is different, but i think it's common to bleed for several weeks at least.

Re: TMI Question-- Ladies who delivered vaginally...

I already responded (5 weeks) though it did sort of "come and go"
By my post-partum check up, which was 4 days shy of 6 weeks, I was bleeding pink again and Dr. said it was my period

My sister bled longer and she had 3 c-sections (little did I know that you have the same "after" effects)
