Wouldn't accept a tip at the FD we went to. If anything, I'd suggest making a donation to the fire department and noting the reason for the donation with the check. We planned to do this but I forgot about it until just now 
ETA: I see you're going to a Police Station, guess you wouldn't really donate there then.

They are not allowed to take tips. You can however do a donation.
