Timeframe on reporting an auto claim?

Someone hit my car back in June while I was parked somewhere. I don’t know exactly where it happened I just know within a two day time period someone damaged my right front end. Summer happened and I just never got around to calling it in. Will that matter that it happened two months agoWhen I call it in?

Report of an accident needs to be made within a reasonable time frame. You should report asap, as your company may chose to deny your claim based on the delay in reporting. But the time frame is vague and not specific, and each company handles reporting differently. A decision will be made by the claim representative handling the claim.

Re: Timeframe on reporting an auto claim?

If you're not even sure where it happened or when or by who, can you just tell them it happened recently? Like yesterday? How would they even know?

It's not worth the risk of going to jail. That's insurance fraud.

Yes, but again, who would know. Where is the proof that you didn't walk out this morning to it.
She doens't even seem to know exactly when or where it happened in the first place.

I don't know- just throwing ideas out.
I would never do it because I am so anal about my car I'd have to report it right away but just wondering.

How would anyone know? There is no other party to dispute it. Like for real, how could anyone at the insurance company ever know? Do they do some kind of CSI testing on the paint that can determine the date of occurrence?

I'd probably just call and report it and say you don't know when the damage occurred, that you just noticed the damage now. I don't see how they would know whether or not this occurred months ago.

Yeah, I really don’t know how anyone would know or ever go about checking. Or if whoever took the claim would even go through the effort of trying to disprove anything.

I'm not saying you would get caught, but it's still insurance fraud. And technically this website post would be proof.

IMO, it's just not worth the risk.
