Re: Time for the next step?
I'm on my 5th month of TTC and I bought a CLear blue easy fertility monitor as well as a home sperm analysis test for my DH to take because I knew I couldn't do the RE yet. I'm probably going to wait until the summer to get professional testing done if I don't conceive by then. Of course I'm hopeing that summer testing will not be necessary. If the RE doesn't see you, those are some steps you can consider. GL....

Re: Time for the next step?
It depends on your age. I started the tests (SA, endo biopsy, post coital, HSG) after 6 months of TTC with no luck. If you're over 35 OR if you are diagnosed with something like PCOS, it is recommended that you see a specialist before the traditional one year.
But I hope this month is your month!!!

Re: Time for the next step?
Could you try going to an ob/gyn who specializes in infertility? That's what I did and how I got started on the testing at 6 months. Or, explain to your MD that you have concerns and would like to start testing NOW.
I say "I can't believe we have to this" on a daily basis. This TTC stuff can be no fun at times. (oddly.)
Actually, my DH went to HIS MD for an SA. Told him we'd been TTC but didn't get into the length of time. His MD ordered the SA. That might be an option.

Re: Time for the next step?
IMO the over the counter sperm tests are not a good means to go by. They only take into factor count which is important but so it motility and morphology which they don't take into account. You are better off having your DH get a SA through his urologist or MD. Also, if you haven't already done so buy the ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor...it is great. Although we have MF IF the monitor has helped me keep abreast of my cycle and I'm able to tell when AF is going to show down to a science. Good luck!

Re: Time for the next step?
We've been TTC for over 1 year now. I recently went through a lot of test (HSG, Laparscopic surgery, Internal ultrasounds) to see if I was infertile. My doctor found nothing at all wrong with me. My husband now has to go for a SA. I think if I had to do it all over again. I would of sent my husband for a SA before I went through all of that. I would send him to the urolgist first before you have to go through all different kinds of exams. Good Luck!!!

Re: Time for the next step?
I think we started TTC around the same time (June). I recently had my yearly exam so brought it up to my dr. I am having some trouble with my cycle (spotting at 7dpo though the start of AF and irregular cycles from 30-42 days). Since I am under 30 (like you)My Dr. would usually wait until 1 year of TTC before beginning testing but because of my cycle problems I am going for CD3 and CD21 (or 7dpo) blood work. What we will do next depends on the results of these tests. I think the next step would be DH's SA after the blood work, and any other non-invasive tests, before HSG. Good Luck!
